thread: Tupperware?

    Tupperware?

I posted this in another part of the forums, and then realised this is the right one!

I know there was another thread on party plan companies, but I was just wanting people's experiences with selling Tupperware.
I am having a party next week, and I have been blown away by how easy it was getting people to come- everyone likes the products and is actually excited to come- I think that in these economic times, Tupperware is kind of like a comfort thing that brings back memories from you childhood etc (well it does for me! all mums cooking etc!)
I have done Mary Kay in the past, and it was a struggle getting party bookings and very hard to sell, and I was just wondering if it was the same with Tupperware?
I also noticed that the Tupperware parties are nice and efficient and quick. With Mary Kay most people are quite reluctant to participate etc.
I was also wondering (if you don't mind sharing!) how much you would "make" from an average party? What would an average party sales be?
I have a small business now which I work in part time when it suits me, which is going fantastically and is our bread and butter, and I could probably increase this quite easily (the demand is there, so i could do more hours), but I was thinking that Tupperware would be a nice little sideline and sociable thing to make some extra cash to save for holidays etc. I just wanted to compare what I might make in say 2 hours doing tupperware as opposed to what I make doing 2 hours work now.
I loved the social side of Mary Kay and the meetings etc, and was wondering if Tupperware is like this. Are there weekly meetings etc?

And the big question.....did you ever find yourself with no bookings and then having to get cold bookings? or did you always get more bookings from bookings?

And how do you get the car?
Any GOOD AND BAD info would be appreciated! Thanks. xoxox

    Hi Sweet Bliss.

To answer some of your questions. An average party you can earn around $150 from. Your commission is 32% of your sales, but in that 32% you have to take into consideration other things you need to spend, for example stationary, games gifts and petrol in the car !!

There are weekly meetings that you can attend, but if isn't compulsory.

I think you would find at some stage a lot of demonstrators will have a period of no "bookings" but you can also sell from the catalogue as well. There are many different ways to get bookings if you have none, but like anything you have to put in the effort to get what you want.

To get a car you need to be a manager and have 4 recruits under you and be selling x amount of product as well.... I think.

    I agree!

I joined to earn some extra money to save me from going back to work full time! The money is good, but comission is 20% of sales, and if you want to buy the product (as you often do to keep up to date with stock specials and sales) the price is 32% discount. Then literature and party gifts have to be purchased. Thats where the other 12% comes into it. So really, your comission is 32% but 12% is for literature etc. I found once I joined I was set up for the first 6 parties (the idea is to have your kit paid off in 6 parties, then you start earning. Until your kit is paid off, your commission pays your kit off)

I am currently having a slump in sales and parties and recently had 2 hosts (sisters actually) stress me right out - to the point that dh has said "NO MORE!" to being a demonstrator. The 2nd host's order isn't complete (something is on backorder) and didn't want a 2wk delivery but a 3wk one, and now that that one order is on backorder, I'm to wait til then to deliver it all. So in the meantime I have a $700 party order cluttering my office and my Tupperware account overdue (I'm collecting the money at delivery - whoever hasn't paid by then doesn't get their order til they pay - standard tupperware practice). AND you will get those hosts that want to rip you off (like this host I'm talking about). She wanted a thank you gift that was on special during Birthday week for 50% off (a one week only special). The same item was available thru the rest of the month at 15% off, but she wanted the one for 50% off. I explained to her that that wasnt the way it worked, and she was quite rude and stubborn. I said I'd speak to my manager and get back to her on Monday. Turns out I had forgot to give her host credits and the hosts credits worked out to be the difference between the 15% and 50% anyway.

It's not always easy, specially in a dating slump, but the rewards are definately worth it!

(sorry to drop that issue of the host on you, but I kinda needed it off my chest and if you are considering it, there are ppl out there like this! On the whole most hosts are great!!) Msg me if you want to discuss anything!

    Thanks Guys!

So, let me get this clear! You get 20% of sales, 33% off what you order for your kit etc and 12% off stationary?????????

Scone- Vent away! I know exacty what you mean, I have had the same experience with Mary Kay, which is why I am still a little dubious about party plan stuff!

I was wondering about the whole guests paying thing. With Mary Kay, you don't actually place the order until all money is collected, and then you place the order, and the customers get their delivery about a week after paying. I would much rather do it that way, rather than actually place the order, then get the money. (I hate owing money on accounts, and would rather pay upfront when placing orders)Would I be able to do it the same was as MK?

I am having a TW party next week, and have lots of guests coming, and I have been asking my rep lots of questions etc. My only issue is that if I joined, I would want to make my own TW party next week my announcement party, because I can't really turn around and ask all of my friends to turn up to another party so soon. (And all the invites our out and I have lots of confirmed people coming, so I don't want to change the date!)
But would my rep mind? And would I be able to use her things for this party until mine arrive? (Or would she do the AP anyway?
(I am assuming I wouldn't get my kit in time????). How would all of that work? She doesn't seem all that keen in signing me up???? What is the actual process? Sorry for all my questions! I can't PM yet on here.

Also bear in mind that if you become a manager, you have to do a minimum of 2 1/2 parties every week. If you get sick or have family issues and can't do this, you have to give back the car.

just as a suggestion, a friend from my mother's group has just started as a consultant for the "learning ladder" after i had a get-together. fabulous educational books games and puzzles, she found a double benefit, flexible hours for a job (similar to TW), good income plus uses the books for teaching her children and her demonstration kits at parties.... if interested check out their website "learningladder" or PM me and i can give u my friends contact details.

I think the way it was explained to me is that you get 32% of sales, but they only give you 20% coz the other 12% go to stationary, like catalogues, games gifts etc.

With the account - you place the order and collect it. Sort it into who ordered what, then deliver it. At delivery you collect the money. Whoever hasn't paid doesn't receive their order until they have paid. Your account isn't due until 2wks later (I think it's 2wks, may only be one) so that you have time between when you collect the order, and deliver it to the day that it's due (usually a monday). I collect the money, deposit into a special account just for Tupperware, then pay it by card when my account is due.

I have had an issue like this. My sister had a party for me and her friend placed an order for her boss. The friend has paid me, but the boss still has not. So I still have her order. And because that account has been paid for, technically her items belong to me until she pays me. Since the party was in November last year... I don't think I'm getting the money. It was a $90 something order, so I'm not particularly happy about it. So it's mine.

No you get 32% in hand. You have to buy your own games gifts, stationary etc out of that 32%.

They say buy the time you take into account the purchasing of above products, petrol costs, and time for packing orders etc, it works out to about 20% in the end. If you sell straight from the book you get the full 32%, because you are not having to purchase games gifts and using the car for traveling.

Oh that makes so much more sense than what i was told.

Sorry, i've got no dating tips. My manager is making me feel bad atm for not having any dates.

Your manager sucks a bit Scone. She should be providing you with tips and motivation not making you feel crap about something you are trying to change.

That said, it does take a HUGE effort to fill your books once all the parties are gone. It's not impossible though...

What have you done already MT2?

Sweet Bliss (and anyone else wondering about joining a PP), DO take into consideration the fact she hasn't dropped off the info OR contacted you to let you know why. Maybe she isn't that interested in recruiting..maybe not, but if you sign up under someone unreliable - what use will they be when you need support?

When I first signed up with PP I had a TL/Manager that was nice but I could never get hold of her. I had no idea what I was doing and then my parties dropped off. Then she left and I was assigned a new one. WELL! This one drove all the way across town to meet me, gave me a list of ideas but more importantly motivated me to the point I ended up with a team of my own (9 members) 7 weeks later.

So having a DECENT upline/TL/Manager is MOST important when you are starting out. At the end of the day its your business and you must do the work yourself but its bloody hard at the start.

As a TL for 2 years I committed to weekly phone calls with each member, monthly (way FUN!) meetings, emailed agendas to those that couldn't attend, sent a fortnightly team newsletter recognizing all achievements no matter how small. I also made sure I did the same things I asked my team to do myself.....which ended up seeing me approaching several umm 'massage parlours' for business on a dare
In any case I had a successful team because of my commitment to it. I get really peeved when I see PPers signing people up and leaving them to it. Not fair at all.

Sweet Bliss. I agree with Lulu. If she hasn't dropped off the stuff or at least contact you to say there has been a hold up, I'd be ringing Tupperware direct and asking for a Manager to get in contact with you.

If I knew where you were, (near me) I could hand you in as a recruit lead! lol

Do it anyway! In the company I worked for, they wouldn't pass another lead to you if you couldn't treat them well
