Question If you have no idea how far along you are . . .

Before you get your dating ultrasound, is there any way to tell yourself?

I just got a positive test a few days ago completely unexpectedly after my period mysteriously dissapeared at the beginning of the year. I know I must've fallen pregnant in either April or May, I did a test at the Dr in March which was negative.

When I did the home midstream test, I didn't even think it would work because I only had a small amount of urine. But sure enough, it worked at the positive line came up straight away and was dark, darker than the test line.I didn't do the test in the morning, either. I've also had a small amount of bleeding after DTD (sorry TMI).

Now I'm bloated (I actually LOOK pregnant lol!), peeing a lot, very tired and a little nauseated. Based on this, does it seem more likely that i've been pregnant for a number of weeks?

edit: My boobs are also bigger and my ribcage seems bigger too, which is strange because I started doing a lot of exercise since I moved house!

I just gueessed in your pregnancy announcement thread but considering you get a really dark line straight away and you have already been having morning sickness (that nausea you were talking about) I think you have def been pregnant for a few weeks.

I guessed 11 weeks. Are you booked in for a dating scan?

Congrats! I don't know if there is any other way of finding out how far along you are apart from having a dating scan. Are you booked in to have one?

I'm not booked in yet, I'm seeing my GP on Tuesday for a referral. Yeah 11 weeks sounds like a good guess, lol imagine I was pregnant all that time and didn't know! Way to skip the first trimester hehe (I hated my first trimester last time). I'm hoping I'm as far along as possible to excuse my protruding stomach!

does anyone know when the first 'offical' scan is suppose to be? is it 12 weeks? should i bother seeing the doc before that scan due?...i do not need STI blood checks, i am positive of that

with my first i had no idea how far i was either due to a lack of periods. I was given a dating scan to give a rough estimate. at the time i was only 5 weeks along. I have my fingers crossed that you are around 11 weeks although 10 weeks keeps jumping out at me... I will be watching to find out how you go

I thought they could tell from a blood test also ??? Either way though you have to wait for your GP but your blood tests might come in sooner thn you can get an US depending on where you live

I just thought of something, I think they can get a rough idea from either your bloods or your urine. Whatever those pregnancy level thingy mibobs are (I am having a shocking night)found in. Is it the level of HCG???

I didnt find out i was pregnant with DD until 12 weeks.

I'm pretty sure they only way to know your gestation is via ultrasound. Even a blood test wouldnt tell for sure because everyones HCG goes up at different paces.

thanks everyone. With the HCG dating, I think your levels spike at approx. 10 weeks then decrease slightly, so I don't know how accurate the dating would be?
