I think it is a post preg thing as some people hang onto their hair when preg and lose less - mine started falling out around 3 months post bub and it was EVERYWHERE! It has just started to get back to normal - so don't panic!
In the last few weeks I have been loosing a lot of hair ....
I wash my hair every couple of days and it's too the point where it completely blocks the plug hole in the shower when I wash it and if I take my pony tail out a handful of hair comes with it.....
Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening - is it something to do with BF'ing??

Its all very very normal hunny, you are UTD 4 12mths so when buba is 3 mths all that lovely hair growing hormons (sp?) we have goes away and with it does our hair...
you will find in a few months you will get new growth as well really short bits of hair from your crown and around you temples...
they should really tell first time mums this when you have a baby I am sure you not the 1st nor will you be the last to think you are going bold...
I think it is a BF thing, I am also losing my hair!!! I have short hair so it doesn't block the plughole completely, but the fact that there is enough to even get caught in the plug hole is astounding for me!!!
I think it'll cease when you stop BF...
I started getting this around the same time I got marriedBut in all seriousness, 3 years later I still lose handfuls when I wash it, and more when I brush it every day - but I have no bald spots.
My hairdresser said it happens to women who have long thick hair - usually we lose hair through the day all the time, but the long thick hair traps the hair thats come away. So then, when we wash or brush it, it all comes out at once and scares the person who's hair it is!!
Maybe keep an eye on it for a few weeks, and see if you're hair starts looking thinner. I honestly can't tell the difference in my hair, if anything it looks thicker!

When I found out I was pg lots of women told me about the loss of hair in the first 6months after the birth (sometimes longer) and how thick my hair would get whilst pg... I wasn't too pleased with the thick hair during pg as my hair is already quite thick but was definitely looking forward to loosing soem thickness after the birth lol
Seems my hair agreed with me on the 'how can it possibly get thicker' side of things and I am one that is having the loss whilst pg. I am mainly thinning on the sides near my temples but overall my hair now seems to be normal thickness.
I have heard that I could still have hair loss after birth but I suppose I will have to wait and see.
Dee, it is normal post-pregnancy stuff. When you are pregnant you don't lose as much hair as normal so about 3 months after you have the baby all that lovely extra hair falls out! It can keep falling out for a few months too so don't freak out!
Like TK, I have been losing my hair during pregnancy. I recall losing it loads when BF my daughter but not when I BF my last son.
I have been using a fantastic shampoo & conditioner called Nioxin. I swear by it. I was losing hair so much that I would have to unblock the drain hole in the shower twice when showering. Now I don't have to do it at all. The only thing that sucks about nioxin is the price, but because I use so little, it lasts me a month which is great and my hair is fantastic now.
I have been told that people can either lose hair whilst pregnant or whilst breast feeding but not usually both.
Fingers crossed your hair loss stops and you no longer need to unblock your drain holes![]()
Thanks everyone ...
I had really thin hair to begin with so I might be in trouble ...LOL
I soooo know what you mean! After both pregnancies I lost HEAPS of hair, I have fine hair already and was worried I'd have bald patches LOL. Luckily it wasn't actually noticeable, only to me who had to clean out the plug hole. The regrowth is so annoying, mine is at a really annoying length atm and falls in my eyes all the time. I'll be going through it all again by the end of the year too
.
I always lost heaps of hair now I lose TONS of it!
I seriously can see my hair getting thinner...I am really quite worried about it actually.
I experienced hair loss to a small extent after my first two children at about 2/3 months post birth too. But with my third child the hair loss was worrying. I felt like I was having chemo! No bald patches... all over. I have long and very thick hair so it was interesting to read that it's more common with this type of hair. Anyhow I had a few other symptoms including weight loss and hand tremor etc so i went and saw my doctor. I got a blood test for my thyroid function and my levels were dangerously high. I don't want to worry you but if you have any other symptom with the hair loss especially regarding your weight, moods and tremors then I'd recommend seeing your doctor... it could be a thyroid problem.
I am the same as you Dee. I dont really have any hair to lose!!
It is coming out alot and last night I looked in the mirror and it looks like my hair is receeding. I am not kidding I started to pull out photos to see if its always been like that and I havent noticed but it has gotten really short and looks like all baby hair up near my temples.![]()
Yes, I have been loosing heaps too. I am tempted to cut it all off because it looks so scraggly these days. I find it everywhere!
