when did you switch to larger nappy inserts than newborn?

DD is 6 weeks old and is soaking her (bumgenius pocket nappy) newborn inserts through a lot of the time. We haven't had many leaks yet, but I feel it's only a matter of time.

How old, or how large, was your baby when you switched away from the newborn inserts to the larger ones?

How did you know it was time? Were you getting leaks, or just the nappies were getting soaked?

Also, a dumb question: for a girl, when I do change to the larger inserts, I'll have to fold them down to fit them into the nappy, which is currently on the smallest snap setting. So do I put the doubled folded part in the back or the front? I'm guessing back is better for girls, because they don't pee as forward as boys do, but not sure, because that means even more padding under her bum when she is lying down, not sure if that will be comfy for her.

I've never even used the newborn insert on it's own....I always use both.
I can't remember where I put the folded bit with Darcy though...sorry hun.
