What sort of place have you got, what rooms were you thinking of, what don't you like about it at the moment and what kind of feel are you looking for?
In other words, can you be a bit more specific?
I'm a bit of a magazine junkie and have found the Real Living magazine really good for ideas. Doesn't mean I do anything, mind you, but I have a vision!
2 rooms, dont like plain white walls theres pictures hanging up but it doesn't have a cheerey feel i think so anyway. I like older style things also hippy type stuff. Also live in a flat.
have you thought of maybe doing vinyl wall stickers? if you want a cheaper option than paint (or if you aren't allowed to paint). type in wall stickers in google and check it out. there are some really beautiful options from vintage retro designs to victorian style murals to your more contemporary options.
other simple measures can be a complete re-working of where the furniture is. and to also swap/store other things away. i know that when i want a re-vamp i generally just pick out a few key pieces that i like and put away the rest (ie we have a mantle over a fire place where we put our favourite bits and bobs and this tends to get cluttered, so i find if i do a simple clean up on there and put away somethings it can really 'lift' the rest of the room).
FLOWERS. go to the local fruit and vege shop and buy a really cheap bunch of bright flowers (yellow are the best in winter IMO) and chuch em into a vase. amazing how happy they can make a room. alternatively, pick some flowers outside and go from there...
if it is a bedroom, maybe drag out a long forgotten blanket/large shawl (ie we have some mohair throws we forgot about...) that you like and fold it at the end of the bed. simple little touches can really add to the room.
or buy a nice new doona cover set!
simple chairs dressed with a nice small pillow can really add to a room as well (i'm thinking captains chair style, or late victorian dining chair style...or simple ikea wooden dining chair...).
