o.k just been told gran had a dr come out at 2am nz time she has fluid on lungs she is 98 years of age... what does this mean days weeks??? any info plz?
depends how much fluid is on the lungs and what type of fluid.
it could be something simple like a bit of pneumonia which with some antibiotics is pretty much gone in a few weeks. so all good
or the fluid could be build up from cardiac issues, where the heart doesnt pump effectively and is slowly slowing down so the extra fluid which runs through the lungs before going to teh heart to be pumped through body has to wait a bit and get back logged.
also depends if it is ON her lungs or just around her lungs
as some simple medications like lasix will help reduce the fluid dramatically
i hope her age doesnt stop them doing anything for her.
there is no time frame on this as im unsure of the exact extent of the fluid and type of fluid.
sorry i prob havent been much help
but it isnt always serious, sometimes something simple and very common in teh elderly during winter with colds and flus going around they go straight to their chest sadly and need to be treated effectively adn quickly.
