Both my older boys had Jaundice will the 3rd??

    Hi all
Just wondering, when I had my 2 older boys they both came back with high bilirubin readings and had to be put into the beds with the lights, this caused me to have to stay in hospital for longer, they where both on the beds for like 3-4 days.
I am now pregnant with my 3rd and am wondering if this is going to happen again.
Is there any chance this is comming from me or is it just a coincidence (sp?).
Id love it if this little man didnt get it.
    thanks xoxo

I've been wondering about this a lot too and have asked a few midwives what they thought. One suggested that because I'm Rhesus negative bubs is more likely to have 'incompatibility' jaundice. Another said that because DS was born 2 1/2 weeks before my EDD his liver may have been a little immature and if I go the full 40 wks this time it's not likely to be such a problem...so...I dunno .

Completely agree with Miss J. If you have certain antibodies or you have a RH negative blood group then your babies are more likely to have jaundice. Also like Miss J said if bubs come early then they are more likely to have jaundice then full term babies.
Every baby to a degree (even if you can't tell) has some degree of jaundice (according to the paeds where I work anyway) but obviously depends on the levels as to weather they will need phototherapy lights or bili beds. The more you can feed your baby in the first few days after birth (without making them spew of course) the more they poo and the more they poo the quicker the bilirubin is broken down. Also you can put them under the window in the hospital where they get some natural sunlight which will also help them break it down. Just a thought.

Thanks for your replies, My first son was induced 2 weeks early and my second was after my EDD so who would know.
That did make me remember when i had my DS2 they did tell me something about my blood reacting or something ( cant remember what they said now ).
so maybe it is something that comes from me.
Thanks for the tip Emmy about feeding will definatly try it this time.
