    hey!
I have nursed a woman who had a stitch and was on bedrest (had it inserted at 14wks and was at 30 when i cared for her - she wasnt on bedrest that whole time, but had to be very gentle with what she did)...not that that really helps. but the key is NOT to go into labour with them (altho you have a while to go =P). So plenty of rest, take it easy!!!

    good luck!! *hugs*

I haven't had one personally but know of lots of people that have. So far no one I have nursed has had any regrets or problems although (as I am sure you have read and being told there are risks).

Some of the ones I have seen was one lady had 3 losses (16weeks and 2 at 21weeks) with the stitch she carried to term. Had it in at 16weeks. Some light spotting but that was it. She stayed with us over night for observations and was fine afterwards until it was removed.

One recently. Lady had bub at 28weeks, two at 21weeks and one at 38weeks (the only one with a stitch) she recently had her baby at 37weeks. She was due to have the stitch out the day after she went into labour spontaneously. The stitch was removed whilst in labour and she delivered "the old fashioned way" (lol)

A friend had one in a 16weeks and delivered at 30weeks after labour commenced. She had a prior birth at 23weeks.

Another lady had a suture in at 26weeks due to shortened cervix and funnelling and she is due soon. Suture has being removed and labour not started yet.

Another lady had bub at 26weeks then second pregnancy had suture at 19weeks after an U/S showed a shortened cervix. She had an elective C/S at term no problems.

These are just a few that I know of. So far in my midwifery career I have not seen any women have any problems having the suture inserted. Like I mentioned earlier there are risks but I am not sure the ration or chance. I think the most important thing is it is done by someone experienced in inserting them. I think the biggest risk (which I haven't seen but know it can happen) is rupturing the membranes whilst doing it. Hense why need someone experienced in doing it.

    Thankyou ladies

I have just got out of hospital as i ended up having the stitch and so far so good.I had a little bleeding just when i wiped but no pain so im home now.
I did forget to ask my doc a few questions, like can we still have sex? and is it ok to walk around the house like normal?Im off on holidays on Thursday for 3 weeks doc didnt recommend it but i thought better to be on holidays resting than at home so im off.
Its so assuring to know that alot of ladies have come close to full term after having the stitchi hope im one of them.

Thanks for your help ladies XX
