I am interested in trying out soap nuts as a friend was recommending them today. They are a fruit and seem really cheap and environmentally friendly. She uses them in all washing including her cloth nappies.
Anyone here use them and would/wouldn't recommend?
So I am now using soap nuts. I am getting them through Mama Aum but I have been using some that a friend got me. They are basically a dried fruit (I think) and you put about 6-8 half shells into a bag or sock and put them in with your wash. They are low suds, totally natural and they contain no palm oil (for those concerned about deforestation). I have tried them out on my cloth nappies and are really happy with them. They don't really have their own smell so when the clothes dry out they have no residue smell. You can use a few drops of essential oil (like lavender) though if you want to. Also they are really cheap! A box costs about $30 and that lasts 6-12 months (according to different people I have spoken to). Each 'dose' of 6-8 half shells lasts for about 5 washes if you use cold water or about 4 if you use hot as it degrades the nut quicker.
Wow, that sounds interesting! I'll PM you for a web address - I don't really fancy typing 'soap nuts' into google, you never know what you're gonna get
I really like them. They get our nappies clean and my soccer gear. A friend has gotten lots of samples for her family and friends so will get some feedback from there too hopefully soon.
