DS has been down to 1 bf per day - usually first thing in the morning or earlier if he won't settle back to sleep in the early hours. he could definitely do without it now - the main reason why i've been offering him a bf in the morning is to keep my supply going because it helps to settle him at 3am/4am when he won't go back to sleep.
my question is, how long will it take for my supply to completely diminish? he didn't have a bf this morning.
DD had her last bf more than a fortnight ago. Yesterday I was still able to get some out. Before she weaned she had only been having it maybe twice a week for a few months - and the one before her last one had been about 10 days ago. So it does take a while before it completely goes.
It varies from mum to mum, but usually a few weeks. A lot of babies will have a feed every couple of days for a while before stopping altogether. My DS2 went a few months doing that. FWIW children still get immunity and nutritional benefit even from just one feed a day or every couple of days, so you are still going a great thing for your DS.
Thanks for the responses . That puts my mind at ease. I was thinking my milk supply would completely stop within a couple of days and I was worried that I woudn't be able to BF if DS needed it in a few days.
