We have been with RACV for a while and I just couldn't be bothered shopping around so just keep paying them but when I rang Allianz a few weeks ago about my house insurance, they asked when my car insurance was due and said they would ring a few weeks before to give me a quote on my car. So they rang today and I just swapped my comprehensive car insurance to them for $628 a year instead of paying RACV $802! And with that I get one claim a year before I lose my no claim bonus and my excess went down by $50 and it was a very quick call as they already had lots of details as I have my house insurance with them. Car is probably only worth about $8000 so $802 is alot to insure it. I was almost thinking about dropping it.
It really is worth the time to take the trouble to shop around!

But be warned that they are not very nice when it comes to claims - I was very dissatisfied with one that I made in 2007. Just read your PDS and make sure you're happy with it.
