    parenting payment question

    Bit of background info.

DF went off work on sick leave but has decided to quit his job and as of today is offically unemployed(company wasnt providing a safe work enviroment and he ended up in hospital with chest pains because of the stress of the job and the amount of work he was required to do). Im pretty sure he wont be able to apply for anything because he quit(which is fine) but am i entitled to receive parenting payment partnered?? I was going to call and ask but kept forgetting and now i think it would be impossible to get through and dont really want to sit on the phone on hold if im not entitled.

    TIA

it shouldnt matter whether he quit or not. he's unemployed so he can apply for newstart allowance.
im pretty sure you're entitled to the parenting payment. most times i havent been on hold for overly long (depending on time). is there any chance you can go to CL instead?? they would give you the forms while you're there too.

I believe that if your partner has quit then there is a period of up to 8 weeks that he is not able to get new start, this also applies for parenting payment, you are not eligable until he is.

This is just my understanding, do try to get through as the sooner you notify centrelink the better .

there is a wait period but from experience if u can prove leaving was for health reasons then the wait period doesnt apply.if it was documented that ur dh was stressed due to work when he went to hospital with chest pains then u may b safe.either way, ring centrelink asap because if they approve payment then they use the phone contact as start date and u may get back pay.they will ask u to also go into office if approved and do paperwork so b prepared if u need to arrange seperation certificate etc.good luck.

FAO are available til 8. it took me about 5 mins to get through this time last night

both of you should apply for payment now. there may be a witholding period due to your partner voluntarily leaving work - but it is best to apply now and then serve out the waiting period rather than guessing what it will be - if you wait longer than the designated period, it won't be backpaid

you MIGHT be eligible for parenting payment (as it's there to support your children) but it will depend on whether your partner gets any leave payouts etc.

you would also be able to appeal any decision to not pay based on him quitting if you can provide medical documentation that he was being treated for stress - it's not something i can guarantee would work, but it's always worth trying

don't go into the office - they will send you to a phone and tell you to call as all first contact for payments is done over the phone. call FAO/parenting line 136150 and go through the details now.
