    Bali Oct 09

We are off to Bali in Oct this year, we are having a deserved break with our DD! However lately I have been a bit nervous about it all, seeing as the Bali Bombers struck in October & they were finally executed (good riddance) last yr. Scared that their supporters may choose the anniversary to do something else terrible? Am I being paranoid? Do you think maybe we should stay out of Kuta instead? Also while I'm at it, any recommendations for family friendly hotels?

We were over there with the boys in Dec last year and again in April this year. We all really enjoyed it. TBH it is a very individual thing as to what level of risk you are willing to take. Personally I feel that anything could happen anywhere, anytime, so unless there is a significant threat then I am not going to avoid places. For me, it didn't feel like there was a significant threat in Bali. It felt safe. But you are the one who has to be comfortable with it, so please don't base any decisions on what I think!

I recommend staying somewhere like a resort where are there are grounds for the kids to play. In Dec we stayed in an awesome apartment in the grounds of the Jayakarta hotel. It was perfect for the kids with pools and gardens etc and the apartment had a kitchen of sorts with a large fridge and microwave, toaster, bottled water etc. The second time they were booked out so we stayed at a hotel with two pools but no real grounds and no real facilities in the room and it wasn't as easy as the first time. I think they are booked out till the end of the year, but you could try googling the Jayakata apartments - there is a NZ couple who own some including the one we stayed in.

we are going in 24 days and counting and are staying in Seminyak, at the Bali Villas of Excellence - not exactly kid friendly but completely private with our own pool - I'm wanting a super relaxing holiday without loads of people...

if it were me i'd prob stay clear of kuta just because its the busiest place and where all the bars/club/drinking scene is...

Oh, forgot to mention, both times we stayed in Legian. Still pretty central, right next to Kuta, but a bit quieter and better for us (being there with kids and al). Seminyak would be fantastic too, a bit quieter again but still not far from Kuta.
