hiya
from what i know, PUL isnt available from normal stores. you need to get it from online nappy fabric stores. but if you think you have a chance of getting it, im happy to send you some.
I need a favour from one of you lovely ladies.
I need a scrap piece of PUL fabric so that I can SHOW these darn idiotic stores in Cape Town what I am looking for. Everytime I go to a shop and ask for PUL I get Noboby-Home staresThen I explain that I'm looking for waterproof fabric and I get show the nicest PVC fabric that you make tablecloths from and when told that that is not what I'm looking for ... I get a "sorry can't help you then" You would think that with the economy being what it is, you will at least get some GD SERVICE - phew, rant over
I even went to the outdoor place and ask them if they can help me (I thought that certian sleepingbag fabric or tent fabric might work) but again " Sorry ma'm, can't help you .. that fabric store is this and there" ARGGGGGGGG
My AIO pattern from Canada has arrived and I'm BURNING to make my first lot of diapers .. but I need a waterproof fabric (wool is so not in my price-range atm)
I will reimburse the postage, but if someone can just send me like a A5 square that would me much appreciated.
TIA

their in newzealand but google them
if you have no luck let us know, im sure between us all we can help![]()
Yep here tooEverytime I go to a shop and ask for PUL I get Noboby-Home staresSame with hemp or bamboo too.
I second Maz's suggestion of greanbeans but could spare you something from my personal stash![]()
Now that just plain stucksPUL isnt available from normal stores.Raven I hear you, I don't even what to go into that.
Thank you all for offering. You're too sweet
Ok, so I'll order some online and will just have to wait for it. Have to check it with DH first too ... imagine his surprise when he sees his creditcard is over limit - hehehehehe
I'll have a look at greenbeans and is Wazoozle or someting the other one, right? What is the going price for PUL ..
Ok, I've checked Greenbeans - GREAT Stuff had a shopping chart full of neat stuffies (Hook & Loop, Suedecloth, Microfleece, PUL in various colours) comes down to $27.57 (R224.57)
BUT, BUT, BUUUUUUUTTTTTTTthe darn shipping is $42.06 (R335.00)![]()

So I canceled my purchase. This is so stupid
Then checked out Wazoodle ... same thing. Shipping is about double the actually purchase price. And they are more $$ on the PUL than Greanbeans. I don't mind a bit more exxy, if the shipping is cheaper, kwim??
Any other online stores that I can have a go at?? UK, USA, China .. anywhere basicly.
Also I found a place in SA that sells Cotton that has been teflon coated and they imply that it's waterproof and breathable. So I e-mailed them to ask for more info and are waiting for them to come back to me.
I've also found a woman that makes MCN IN SOUTH AFRICA ... IN CAPE TOWN (was on her web-site) and she sells home-made PUL covers. So I mailed her and asked where she got her PUL from and if she mind sharing. I'm still waiting for her reply.
Another stupid question ... I bought the most beautifull chocolate brown crushed velour on a sale ... but I have no idea if it's an OUSIDE diaper fabric or and INSIDE diaper fabricMaz?? Crushed Velour ... inside or out??
of the top of my head try these places
nappies covered
bubba earth
baby soft landings
snaps australia
you should be able to check out pricing before checking out
with velour hon, the fluffy side or the plush side is the outside....the inside will seem flat and look knitted IFYKWIM
let me know how you go chicky
Thanks Maz, going to check out those stores too.
That means that it goes on the OUTSIDE of the diaper ... the plush side. So that if you pat baby's bottom you feel the velour ... not the inside like the lining that is against the tooshie, right?with velour hon, the fluffy side or the plush side is the outside....the inside will seem flat and look knitted IFYKWIM
What I actually meant was ... do you use it to LINE the diaper or not?
How about wicking ... how does that work, you put the fleece in on the inside of the diaper and it wicks the wetness away??? Because I scored some winter sheeting (flannel) from my mom that I was going to use as the inside of the diaper ... would that work. I know flannel don't wick, surely I can use anyting to make diapers with.
It seemed so simple, but now I have all these dumb questions. I'm going to bother you a lot

Whoa, they have amazing stuff. oh no, i feel i may have to spend some money!
you can also try the new store called flowerchild![]()
Oh River .. I only wish I was in Australia. Then I would not have these darn problemsI'm in South Africa, so if you know of someone who is coming this way ....
Just got feedback from the teflon-guy. : excited: He is going to post me a 60x60cm swatch of something that he thinks might work. I'm going to make a diaper from it and test it on ds, my little labrat. Maybe it's the new MCN revolutionand you are going to have to order some from me
