I'm getting a bit tired of seeing the same old stuff everywhere! Are there any good websites that sell more unusual maternity wear? I really love the look of the Shalwar Kameez (google image search!) which is basically a long tunic-style shirt and matching long pants often worn in Asia and the Middle East looks very elegant, cool for the summer and appropriate for maternity. Where would I find something like that? Simple, elegant, a bit different?
I've managed to get to 35 weeks without ANY maternity clothes. Like you I thought they were all hideous or unimaginative. I've just been wearing long tops or tunics with either leggings (the brighter the better!) and boots or any pants/skirts with a low waist - luckily I happened to have a few of those already. Being in chilly Melbourne having a nice long black wrap-cardigan to go over anything has been really useful too.
Good luck with finding those tunics - they sound ace
I was surfing around last night and I came across a mention of Tree of Life. Their website doesn't have anything too inspiring but the maternity-wear fashion advice column I read said they had lots of loose floaty Indian-inspired designs. They have stores in most states. (I'm not going to post a link cos I think it's against regulations).
I can't buy the maternity clothes here in Vietnam so I've been looking at styles and taking pictures to the tailor. It has not been such a successful venture. I have three very matronly shirts in the cupboard that I will only wear as a last resort as well as a blue tent that is one of the ugliest things I've ever tried on. But each "experiment" is costing me less than $10 so I can't really complain.
I ordered some hip clothes from Isabella Oliver in the US, got some shirts and pants copied and am waiting to see the results of the dress-copying. The main problem with these designs is that they look fantastic on the pouty pregnant models in the catalogue not so good on a real person. I should have taken more note of the plunging necklines before I ordered. That kind of thing is considered unseemly here!
i don't know about finding anything as unusual as Shalwar Kameez but i've bought a heap from queen bee (online) and loved everything i received.... i'm off to bali in a week so needed some summer dresses etc, which are a bit hard to find in the middle of winter.... also have a wedding coming up in october where i will be huge and have found a nice red dress off another website...
Do you have any suburbs near you with a high Indian or Pakistani population? If so you could probably find some there or at least get the lowdown on where to get them from.
If you want to buy online try the modest clothing directory Modest Clothing Directory (formerly Dara Marie Modest Clothing)
I've never had a drama with any company on their directory.
I loved the maternity clothing I bought from egg. They're a NZ compmany but you can get their stuff in Australia and online. It was really comfy and well cut. It was expensive but it wore really well.
