Most of the good cake/cupcake books are american that I prefer, like Martha stewart's baking handbook and her cupcake book... Do you have foxtel? Most of my lessons come from there, Martha, Ina Garten, Anna Olsen (from Sugar) also google some of the bakeries in NYC and you'll find a lot of them have their own cookbooks...
