Question New to cloth... how many do I need?

I am slowly starting to convert to cloth nappies (MCNs). So far I have two bamboo Baby Beehinds, six hemp Baby Beehinds and two covers. I was just wondering how many I really need - taking into account that I live in a very wet and very cold state?

Also, any suggestions of different types or brands of MCNs are appreciated .

    TIA

I'm not really good at guessing how many you'd need...that's why I have 40+ nappies. That said, half my stash are on the line in the rain and even with drying time of the rest I would be fine to exist on what I have.

What shape is your little guy?
    Nate is looong and skinny.
    We have
    Monkey Doodlez
    BumGs
    Ecobubs
Itti Bittis (not so great on him)
BBHs have hemp and bamboo - hate the hemp
    ctue tooshies
    cushie tooshies
    tots bots fitteds
bundles of buns (our fave - i have 7)
berry plush - a useless fit on him

    hmmm I think that's all.
Sadly it's trial and error most of the time. Look for ones with good reviews. Lots of the girls sell them and can't recomend them highly enough.

It really depends on what type of nappies you have...
If you have AIOs given your climate, you will need a quite a few to cover your dry time...
AI2s are a good alternative, as they can come apart greatly reducing the drying time.
    This is like pockets.

Fitteds and covers again a usually a little quicker drying.
    Flats are the quickest.

So if you have some flats for emergencies, and are usuing full time cloth, pockets and AI2s for one baby, washing every second day, about 30 nappies would do I think

Yay Sterla!!! You will love MCNs!!!

I have about 55 but that's still not enough for me hehe but i'm slightly addicted.....!

But seriously, if you want to wash only every 2nd day then I say you need at least 30.... then you have to consider when it rains and how it takes some nappies longer to dry... I have a mix of nappies... pockets, AIO's, AI2's, fitteds with covers, and then my inserts/boosters are all different.... hemp, bamboo and microfibre. Bamboo is more absorbent but takes longer to dry for example. It's good to mix it up I think

My advice - buy 1 or 2 of a few brands and give them a go! You'll be hooked!

I have 80ish for 2.5 in cloth. I would say absolute minimum of 30 per child, washing daily. To allow for bad days I would have 40.

Thanks for your replies. Okay, so 30+ by the sounds of it. I'm planning on buying a few here there and everywhere... Really excited about it! Just waiting for my PayPal to finish setting up so I can start shopping online! Can't wait!

Okay... I went a little crazy. I've ordered 7 new nappies - a bit of everything: some AIOs, a pocket, a fitted, a cover... Now, to impatiently wait for delivery!

Oh dear... I haven't even received any yet and I'm already feeling that I may be slightly addicted! I'm even sussing out local stores that sell MCN's to tide me over till I receive my orders .

Arimeh: Yeah - I did see that you're moving to Tassie. I'm in Launceston, so definitely might see you

Well, Oliver is being very obliging and really helping me get into the swing of washing my MCNs... he did a huge poo in one this morning, and I was very impressed by how well the nappy contained it .

***drums fingernails*** I wish my order would get here now...
