My DD has had problems with her guts since birth.Initially she was diagnosed with lactose intolerence and as much as the doctors tried to convince myself and my darling husband that projectile diarrhoea and vomitting was quite normal, I was left wanting. After ten very stressful weeks of expressing milk prior to feeding and adding Lacteeze to milk I eventually gave up and put her on full time formula. I regret this, but was at the end of my tether and would have comp fed if I had been given the appropriate support and knowledge.
More recently, she has been on solids and has had one bout of 4 weeks of diarrhoea then a really nasty viral gastro for a week. She is not the most robust child for her age so it is a worry that each time this happens she stops eating for a while and loses weight. Each time these problems have occurred, Doctors have been dismissive as the tests have not turned up anything apart from inflammation. I`m constantly told to trust my instict as a mother by the professionals and then ignored by them when I have concerns.
It sounds like you have had a really difficult time of it. Can I ask if she currently has dairy at all?
TBH, I am a big believer in mothers' instinct, so I think if it was me, I would ask to see a specialist. I think you deserve some answers hun, and I hope you get them.
See someone, and don't stop until you find someone that you feel is really listening.
MIL went through this with DH - took him to the GP over and over, even the paed wouldn't listen, wrote his diarrhea off as gastro for weeks on end and he just kept losing weight. Then, middle of one night, she cracked it, had had enough and took him to the Children's Hospital, where someone finally paid attention and he was diagnosed with Crohn's disease.
I'd be inclined to find a really good Paediatric Specialist (or someone who really listens and will make a real diagnosis) then try to find a good Naturopath or Homeopath to treat your little one. Natural medicines are highly effective in treating gastro-intestinal disorders, and will greatly reduce discomfort and pain.
You are doing a wonderful thing by posting on these forums - everyone is so supportive and willing to share their experiences. Hang in there, and all the best in finding a specialist who respects motherly intuition - they are out there somewhere!
Yes DD does have dairy but I do not think this is the problem. She had no reducing substances present last time she was tested so this would indicate that she is not allergic. The last specialist suggested a high fat diet which eventually seemed to settle her down, but i dont understand why it would ie)what he was thinking when he suggested it.
