    Anyone got Hereditary High Cholesterol?

Dh has had his cholesterol levels checked because High cholesterol runs in his family (yay) anyway they are at 7.1 - very high I know but it does not suprise us as we knew they would be high. His dads has been at 13 before.
I know all about cholesterol and the methods we use to cook our food is fine. I just wondered if anyone had any websites or information they could share with me in regards to recipes and changes to make in the diet, things that he should not have and things that he should have. We are seeing a dietician early August which I am looking forward to so I can understand it a bit better.
The Dr has put him on Crestor to see if that will bring it down. Has anyone tried using a naturopath etc.
I am really annoyed with the recipes that are out there for low cholesterol they are all fancy recipes. I just want everyday normal family recipes not recipes your would use in a restaurant - so frustrating.
    Any help will be appreciated.

I have heriditary high cholesterol also. I can't remember what my levels were, they were done 8 months ago, but they were slightly under needing medication. Instead i have a health plan with a dieitican to try and get it to lower naturally.

Food only contributes 10% of cholesterol i believe, and cholesterol cycles within your body so it is very hard to get rid of it. One thing that does apparently is beans, my dieitican said i should use a lot of these.

Anyway, working with the dieitican has been fantastic, i have to get my levels rechecked, but in generally it was a huge help, even though i thought i knew most of the stuff.

That and getting rid of any excess weight is also good.

Unfortunately with heritary stuff, diet doesn't make that much of a difference.

Metamucil can help a little, but it has other nasties (i have been told, i am not an expert)
