Hi there
Just wondering what bottles I should buy. I have been told advent leak?? and that the tommie tippie nurture by nature are hard to get teats and that the teats are to soft??.
Just wondering what you all use and what you think of them so I can buy some.
thanks
Hi Krissy i used tommee tippee closer to nature for feeding EBM and had no problems with DS latching on to them and then back on to me, I never had trouble finding replacement teats either, I found them at Big W and Safeway HTH
I used Pigeon & Avent. 2 different shaped teats ... With bottles, it's not so much the bottles that are the problem, it's the teats. Babies can be very fussy with the teat they will suckle! So be prepared to try different teats until you find a shape your bub likes.
You can pick up second-hand bottles from freecycle / second hand baby shops sometimes to try out with the teats, and then buy what your baby actually likes, IYKWIM?
thanks girls its so hard to know which ones to get. I think I might try the tommie tippie ones but will have a look around for the replacement teats first see where i can get them.
amberj - try chemist warehouse they have the teats for the nuk bottles coz i have them lol
my bub will only take those teats and the dummy's do u use a dummy if u do try to get teats similar or very close to that shape hope that helps
I use Tomme Tippee. Target, Big W, Woolworths and the chemists in my area all stock the teats but I have only had one actually break and used them with Bubble for a year and again now with Poppy.
We used the Tommee Tippee closer to nature ones for a while and really liked them. The teats are soft, but I wouldn't say too soft - I think it makes them easier to use, especially for smaller babies.
We switched to BPA-free bottles though, because we were worried about BPA. I really wish the Closer to Nature bottles would switch to BPA-free plastic.
I use avent and love them. I've only had a problem with them leaking a couple of times, and both times they weren't done up properly. I tried the Tomy ones but DD hated them.
its just so confusing! I always thought I would buy the advent ones then heard bad things then good things and now I just dont know!.
They are not cheap and I dont mind spending the money so long as they are going to be good. I guess I could always try them and keep the reciept??
Are the Advent ones BPA free?
thanks again all
just another question, when they talk about the airflex nipples with the advent is this different to the normal advent nipples or is this just what they call their brand? IYKWIM
Hi Krissy
I use the avent bottles too....from memory (sorry couldnt find any old packaging around) all the teats are "airflex". I usually buy teats from BigW or Coles and have never noticed ones that arent airflex.
We do have occassional dramas with leaks, but figured out the problem was DH would screw the top on as tight as he could....dont do this lol!! If he backs it off a little no leaks
Ive never tried DS with any other brand so I really cant offer advice on comparisons.
On thing I ony just discovered with Avent is you can get handles that will fit on any size of their bottles (no idea if other brands do this tho!)
Hope I helped and not confused you more lol
i use the tomme tippee closer to nature bottles, started off with avent but DD wouldnt latch properly (cause they arent shaped like a boob i suppose) weve had no probs with the tomme tippee ones she loves them and found the teats in the chemist where i got the bottles from, GL
Nothing like a cuddle from DD after a hard day's work!

I use the pigeon peristiatic nipple in the avent bottles. Only coz i stocked up on avent bottles but DD refused to use them.
Avent bottles leaked all the time for me (coz i use a different teat probably) but I like how the lid is flat. The pigeon ones arent and can be rather annoying.
Avent has BPA (they are bringing a new range out that are not but dont know when), I thnk their plastic number is 7. Pigeon bottle number is 5.
best of luck and hope you find one that suits bub =)
we use MAM ultivent bbottles...due to the fact we did use tommee tippe closer to nature and also avent bottles...both of which caused horrid wind/colic pains in bub due to the teats collapsing thus causing wind pains!!! switched over to MAM ultivent bottles and it was the best swap EVER!!!!! no wind no collapsing teats
