Question How long does it take to organise a baby shower?

    Hello everyone,

Can anyone tell me roughly how long it took them (or their friends) to organise their baby shower?
what they had, how long it lasted, where they had it what food, games, who was invited etc?

My best friend and I have been talking about mine and I realised to get invites out, RSVP's food drinks etc its going to take a wee bit of planning.

We're thinking sometime around the 34 week mark so almost 10 weeks away (yay ) any advice appreciated.

    Cheers Nae x x x x

Not that long - I think the thing you have to do furthest in advance is invite people. Then you can sort food, drinks and games, and she can sort out any surprises for you - it's almost best if the invite comes from her, because then she can put a note saying 'if you're going to bring a present you can call me for ideas or bring money towards a something'. Whereas from you, saying give me presents, doesn't sound as good.

Shouldn't take that long. You'd just want to set a date and get the invites out. All of the baby showers I've been to, including mine have just been an afternoon tea type thing. Starting around 2pm finishing up around 4-5pm. Lots of finger foods, cakes, slices, nibblies, tea, coffee, soft drinks. A couple of games (there's heaps on the net you can google). Opening presents. A few balloons stuck up around the place.

    Not long at all..

When I was in NZ for a holiday, my friend had invited people, knew the MIL of the pg girl was doing the food, and we organised everything else the night before..

It went for about 2 & 1/2 hrs and we had games, lots of finger food, and the guests were work colleagues, friends, mother, MIL, grandmothers.

    Hi Nae

Good fun We had mine on the weekend and I loved it!

As the others have said, it doens't take that long to organise the actual day but giving a bit of warning to your guests is a good idea.

My friend sent a 'save the date' email about 5 weeks before (I had mine at 32 weeks). A reminder email to get all the RSVP's was sent about 2 weeks before. We then discussed what games we'd play, what food I wanted and roughly how I wanted the day to work. We had mine on Saturday from 11-2pm and supplied a light lunch, drinks and afternoon tea (with tea and coffee).

We had some drinks and nibbles as people arrived then started the games at about 11.45. We played 5 games and had a prize for each - a wine gift bag which had a girl mag in it (Good Health I think as it came with a free Napoleon lipgloss - bonus) and a good handful of yummy chocolates.

We played Baby Bingo first. I got the game cards and words off the net (an Aussie website for memory).

Then we played 'How well do you know the mum to be and her pregnancy journey?' - I had listed 15 questions and the guests had about 5 minutes to answer them then we went through the answers.

Next we played the 'measure mum's tummy' game where we handed out toilet rolls and everyone had to take off the amount of squares (in a row) that they thought would fit around the widest part of my belly. We then went around all the guests and got them to measure me with their roll of loo paper. It was pretty funny.

Next we played a memory game. I had arranged about 20 baby items on a tray and we had it covered with a baby towel. The guests had a minute to remember as many items as they could before we put the towel back and they had about 3 minutes to jot their answers down. The towel was one of the answers so that was interesting to see how many guests got that one.

The last game was a finish the nursery rhyme game which once again, I got off the net.

I had one girlfriend take care of the games and another one that took care of all the food stuff. They were amazing.

We had heaps of yummies for lunch - quiches, pizza slices, sushi, sandwiches, party pies and sausage rolls, lamb meat balls, etc. Then we followed up with afternoon tea - so fruit, cakes, slices, etc - after I'd opened my pressies. It wound up by 2.30ish and that was perfect as I was shattered although I didn't do much but socialise!
