My questions are - what's the difference between cotton and hemp? I know that hemp is stronger than cotton but is that all? Do you need to iron the hemp sling (just asking cause all the pics i have seen then hemp looks all crinkly in the tail and that would annoy me if i had to iron it all the time lol)
If you have one, do you love it? i was just thinking about sling i could use for ds now and a newborn. I already have a peanut and ergo but didnt like either of those for newborn and feeding (oh and no i am not pg - just sling shopping ).
I pretty much use my ergo all the time but i do like the look of the ring sling. Can you wear baby for long periods comfortably - like 1-2 hours?
I had a ring sling and found it uncomfortable for long use and I didn't feel that DD was properly supported because she wasn't as close to me as I wanted. I felt like I had to constantly have one hand on to support her in the sling and it didn't free me up to do things like I thought it would, but for me that might have been because I am a small person and the sling was too big for me. I had a cotton one too.
we have a cotton ring sling and it works really well for us. no major wrinkles...never seen an iron LOL!
we have used ours from the time DD was a newborn and are still using it daily 2 years later. i often use it over the pram for big day trips so yeah, withstanding back injuries etc, i can confidently say that you can use them for long and sustained periods of time.
I had a ring slig. It was given to me before DS was born, but I forgot I had it
Then when he was 4 months old & I pulled it out he wasn't interested in laying in it & I hadn't seen one, so didn't know how else to use them.
I started again after seeing a friend use hers when DS was 11 months. It came every where with us! We fed in it, he slept in it, I wore it for hours often.
Then I found out somehow that it was left at a friends place & they let their dogs sleep on it! DH figured I wouldn't want it any more & said to chuck it, so they did! I'm really really peeved about the whole thing even now, 2 months later.
I should get another one.
We have several - DW has an expensive one and a cheap one.
We find the cheap one is made of quite thin cotton fabric, and it slips a bit through the rings - it won't stay tight. That can be a bit annoying. The more expensive one is made of thicker fabric, and it stays tight.
We love them - I have worn Lily in it for long periods - several hours, with no problems barring a slightly sore back (which was probably because I was doing a lot of bending, I was cleaning the house). She settles really well in it. I walked her to the shops and back yesterday, then prepared tonight's dinner, and cooked last night's dinner, and she was still asleep in it when we got her out for feeding a bathing.
