    What would you do?

I posted just over a week ago about dates being behind.

At the time, i should have been 8wks 5days but was measuring 5wks.

Today i had a repeat scan.

According to LMP dates i should be 10wks 2 days today. I am now measuring 6wks 4 days.

The OB said there is no heartbeat so thats it and i should have a d and c.

Do you think this is being a bit rash?

It has grown, thats something. Proper ms started 4 days ago, which would put me spot on 6wks.

The other week when they did the scan, they just told me i was 5 wks, which would put me spot on for 6wks 4 days today. But today they were telling me i was 5wks 6 days when they scanned me last time. Why not say i was 6 wks then? Why say 5 wks when i was basically 6 wks?

Ive also had 2 pregnancies, where i have been told the wrong thing at an early scan. One, i was told at 5wks 5 days that there was no heartbeat, so the pregnancy wasnt viable..................well she's 6 now!! And another, i was told at 7wks 4 days, i was 6wks 1 day and it turned out, they were out by a couple of mm and my dates of 7wks 4 days were correct.

Also, working it back to conception time, i would have conceived about 6 1/2 wks ago. I think i conceived later this time, like CD 16 to 20.

Do you think i should get a second opinion?

If you have a history of dating scan problems then I would wait for a bit. Follow your intuition hun. You could also seek a second opinion at the same time. Goodluck fingers crossed

Can you get some HCG testing done? Or have you already?

I would try and wait another 10 days and have another scan - 8 weeks by revised dates and h/b should be well visible.

Good luck - what a brood you are raising

I think if you're having doubts you should wait, like BekZ said go with your intuition specially if you have a history of mistakes like that

Thanks for your replies, its much appreciated.

Its funny, when she told me there wasnt a hb and i was miscarrying it almost had no effect on me at all. It was weird. I didnt get that feeling of a sinking heart or anything. Also, in the 10 day wait since my last scan, i havent felt much doom about today or anything.

So maybe that is my intuition telling me.

You haven't had any bleeding or cramps though, have you? I don't see why the D&C is necessary yet. Seems very rash in my opinion!

Looking at the dates you've supplied, you're a month out so is it possible you actually missed your last period or didn't notice it but you weren't actually pregnant? My periods are like clockwork so that would be impossible for me but it's a very likely situation for many women out there and it would explain why the scan dates are a month behind the dates according to your LMP.

I'd be waiting a little longer before getting a D&C. Often a heartbeat won't show on a scan until 8 weeks. What was your midwife friend's reasoning for the D&C? I just don't see the point unless it's completely obvious you are miscarrying so cramps, bleeding and no heartbeat.

i agree. doctors dont see you until 8 weeks or more, cos they cant detect a heartbeat.
i know it's really hard but seems rash to me too.
your dates arent very accurate so it's a bit hard to tell.
i really hope you'll wait at least anotehr week, hun.. it is your decision and a hard one.. but maybe just wait.
as taurean has said you havent had any mc symptoms...

I hadnt had any mc symptoms thats right, thats what was making everything so confusing.

BUT, i am like clockwork with my cycles and i had, had a positive HPT 4 wks before the scan that put me at 5wks 6 days.

I went in on friday and asked that they make absolutely sure before going ahead with anything. They were very considerate and agreed with me that we should make sure. Unfortunately it was a mc and it was recommended we go ahead with the d and c.

Thankyou all for your help and support, it has been much appreciated.
