unsure if bleeding is normal after birth

ok so i know that you can bleed for up to 6wks after giving birth, but generally it goes brown??
I bleed the usual bright red after a few days after giving birth, that lasted for 9 days after birth, then it stopped on the 10th day, was a tad brown on the 9th but that was it. on the 10th day it did start again but at night and it only warrented 1 pad, then again nothing until the next night and so on, this has lasted even til today. Im only getting it at night (most times) and it only warrants 1 maybe 2 pads and thats it, its bright red, until the "bleeding" starts i wear a panty liner and get the brown stuff.
Im breast feeding most of the time with maybe 1 or 2 bottles a day if that.

With lachie he was bottle fed from 2wks old so my bleeding was "normal" bled for 1wk brown/spotting for a week, then got my period 1 month later....so this whole breast feeding is confusing me i dont know if its normal

any advice/support would be great thankyou

Do you find it becomes more red after your breastfeed? If so, that's quite normal as the feeding helps your uterus contract. The contracting causes more bleeding and you get the bright red stuff. It can go on like that for weeks (sorry). It is abnormal if it has an offensive odour or you start passing clots.

i havnt actually paid attention as to when it starts in regards to b/f, but that would make sense. I dont get any of the "pains" i thought i would get with the uterus contracting, they only lasted for the 1st week. Is that normal??
Have a midwife check up today so i guess i will ask her and see what she says.

sounds normal hun - but do ask, and if you start passing clots that dont stop you might need to be concerned

but sounds just about right for now

I had the on/off spotting for 8 weeks after DS. I think its different every time.
I got AF back when he was 9 months, but its usually every 6 weeks or so.

Thanks ladies, my midwife said everything is normal......so phew.
Only to be worried if it goes dark red or i start passing big clots or bleeding doesnt stop.
After i had given birth i got 2nd degree tear, but had clots so she had to "fish" them out, after i got stitched up and about 20-30min later i went to toilet and passed 2 HUGE blood clots, and was pouring with blood for about 2-3min, it all settled. I didnt pass any more clots til after i got home and passed smallish ones and then a big one, but with no extra bleeding, so everything was ok.
I keep an eye out everytime for clots, its scary, i never had any clot issues with lachie so this is all new to me, but im sure with time, it'll all heal up and i'll wonder what i was worried about!!
