HELP PLEASE soy? who is or isnt using it? i am getting some very negative feedback!

    Hi everyone,
Just interested in who is using or has used soy and what they thought of it? my ds 7 months has been on it for four months and is doing very well on it...after going through that many different formulas and still having a screaming baby with tummy pains this was the last resort...and well...we have not had one screaming episode since! problem is i have heard a bit of negative stuff about soy...which is why i want to hear from you guys as to how you went?

is it soy or soybased formula?
DD was on normal soy milk from 12-24 months (only just on cows milk again now)

I found cows milk gave her the runs so we used Soy

I guess kids can be allergic to soy just like dairy.

best to get medical advice if it is your main milk for a 7 month old though

Apparently around 50% of kids who are allergic or intolerant to dairy are intolerant to soy.

Both of my girls are intolerant to soy, we have to use rice milk and when DD2 was a baby, she would have an elemental formula "Neocate".

Christy is right about those stats. My DS (and I) are both intolerant to dairy AND soy. In fact soy seems to affect my DS more than dairy. We have to use rice milk here too.

Personally, even if he wasn't affected by it, I wouldn't give my DS soy milk (or formula). You only have to google soy milk side effects etc, to find some interesting reading on it

It seems its no problem for you so I guess if its working for you then not a problem.

We were told by a few doctors & an ENT surgeon to take DS off cows milk & use all soy when he had a bad episode of ear aches & green noses from Daycare. Anywho, long story short he was one sick boy for the next 12months......5 trips to hosp, once airlifted to Brisbane & it was just horrible. Being diagnosed with Asthma, then tested for CF & some cancers. At the end a doctor said stop giving him Soy & go back to cows milk, no one had ever questioned it.....as soooo many people recommended it. He now hasn't had a single ear ache, asthmatic episode or runny nose in 6months, even now it's winter. But that's just our situation.

Yep, if your body can't cope with something it gets alot of, then it is terrible for your immune system. My DS had severe croup five times in less than five months last year......since changing his diet he has been as healthy as a horse *touchwood*.

Glad things are better for your DS Erin
