Cleaning Timber Venetians

I was wondering if anyone had any tips for cleaning timber venetian blinds. I've tried vacuuming the dust off them but that doesn't work. I have also wiped them down with a damp cloth but that leaves streaks on the wood from where the water dries.
It's so frustrating because it always takes me ages to clean them all. Am I doing something wrong?
