    Members of Fernwood Gyms?

    Hello ladies!

I am looking at getting a membership at a gym and am comparing prices etc... We have a brand new fernwood gym opening up near me soon and I am wondering how much they are? And what sort of things do they offer with a membership?
At our local council gym, we get pool, sauna, gym, classes and childminding (at certain times) and one free personal trainer/exercise plan. But it is a pretty busy gym, particularly at the times I would go.
So with a fernwood gym, what do you get? Is it worth it? What kind of classes do they offer? Do they have childcare? Anything else worth knowing?

    TIA

oh gee, I was a member a couple of years ago....so can't remember the prices but they had all the classes I loved, bodyfunk, spin, pump, body combat etc, yoga, pilates etc. They had all new equipment and great childcare facilities.
They offered diet programs and personal training as extras I think.
I got three free personal training sessions on signup - but that was a deal they had at the time.
I don't think it was too exxie, but more than the local council one.
I loved that there were only women there. It really suited me, but it was busy. I was able to go weird hours cos of my shifts (like permanent night owrk) so it didn't bother me too much.

    Hi,
I've been a member for some time. I joined cause it was close to work and I could go before, during and after work depending on my schedule. Now I don't go as often cause I work in another suburb and its out of the way to go after work.
In the mornings there is breakfast provided.
In the change rooms there is hairspray, tissues, hair dryers, ironing boards/iron available etc...
There are child minding facilities, however I'm not sure of the hours and the availability.
In terms of it being busy, if you go on your own there is always equipment available. Classes fill up fast, so I usually get there 20 mins before grab a card and warm up on the equipment.
If you don't mind, could you PM where the new gym is opening? I live in the middle of two gyms, one is 15 mins away and the other is around 20-30 mins. I keep on wishing that they would open up one in the middle (right near home, then I can't make up any excuses).

Fernwood isn't cheap. for basic membership, It cost me $22 p/week - this is for access to the gym, classes, spa, and sauna. Childcare is on top of that and may vary, but it cost me $2 per child, per hour. You cannot have a 'standing' placement, but need to book in no earlier then a week in advance. Getting one child in was never a problem, getting two in culd sometimes be difficult because they only have a certain amunt of placements for each age group - It will be interesting when I need care for all three.

If you want extra's like personal training, food plans, etc, you pay more.

Overall, I think the fernwood I attend is quite good, but my main reasons for going there as opposed to other gyms is convenience in terms of childcare (which is a good standard at my gym) and location (I don't drive).

Thanks girls. It sounds good though a bit more exxy than the council gym. But I don't doubt that it would be better than the council one! I might call and see if there's any deals, being a newly opening gym! Maybe there's some sort of deal....

CharlieBrownGirl, I don't mind saying where the gym is here, it's in Wetherill Park.
