    baking soda??

    Hi,
There is probably a thread on this already, but I am in the middle of cooking banana bread and am after a quick response!

The recipe calls for baking soda. I have bicarb soda and cream of tatar. Are either of these also know as baking soda??

baking soda is bi carb soda

baking powder on the other hand is totally different again

so bi carb soda will be what this recipe is asking for

    Thanks Ladies,
I went to the supermarket to buy some baking soda. I picked up a packet of bi carb soda and underneath it, it had baking soda printed. So according to that packet it is the same............?

I have used the bi carb I had in the cupboard, Ill let you know how it turns out.

    Thanks again!

Bi-carb is the aussie term, Baking Soda is the US term. I know this because I use heaps of US recipes and have multiple US cookbooks for baking.

If you're ever unsure about an ingredient, check out the Cook's Thesaurus (google it and bookmark). Its my lifesaver! I've even used it in the middle of the store when I couldn't find the item I needed.
