Can anyone tell me how summer school usually works? Does it cost much extra? I have no idea, but I just want to knock as much off my uni degree as possible.
I've done Summer School three times because they were only available at that time: two were by correspondence, and one was on site (in Melbourne). It takes far less time than a normal semester's course, but costs up-front (depending on which uni you're going to) and still gets you the same number of credit-points as if you'd done it during the semester.
I was considering doing a third summer-school this (or next) year but the $$ stopped me, along with our private priorities. But if you have the time to put into it, and the money to pay for it, take the opportunity.
As I said, depends on the uni you're at. Mine charges up front, but you may be able to put yours on HECS (or whatever acronym is they use for the government-assistance scheme you're in)
depends on the course as to whether or not it is govt funded. Also keep in mind about how it will impact you over the next 12 months by not taking that break from study. You don't want to overdo it. Summer School courses are usually done over about 8 weeks in total and are more "intense" than other semesters which translates in to more work in less time. This is particularly the case for subjects that are offered during conventional semesters.
