DD is 2 weeks old and i have 3 seperate lots of stitches. My problem is they are still tender and itchy. Is that normal? I'm too scared to look 'down there' but i feel like they should be feeling better and they aren't! Has anyone had the same thing? Should i be worried?
Thanks
I certainly had itchy stitches, it can be a sign of things healing up as the cells are busy doing their thing! Its similar to how some people get really itchy skin after they are getting over a sunburn or when they are in early stages of pregnancy and their breasts are getting bigger or in the later stages, when the belly is getting bigger. All can cause itchy skin!
It is a good idea however to keep an eye on your stitches to make sure all is going ok. I did end up with an infected scar, (not wanting to scare you... just want to say it can happen and it was not related to the itchiness, that came on once I was over the infection )
FWIW I was back in hospital with the infection at the 2 week mark but my tenderness and itchiness lasted a lot longer than that. So, by my experience, you sound very normal to still be a little tender at 2 weeks.
If you're worried get your MCHN or GP to look at them, but for what it's worth, my stiches were incredibly itchy. I did the wiggle bum sit every time I sat down, trying to itch a scratch I couldn't get to. Drove me insane! I found an icepack could help, the cold seemed to relieve the itchiness a bit.
Good luck and it only lasts for a few weeks - but long weeks they are!
Hi!
I was also VERY itcy. I would have loved to do the bum wiggle to itch it but was WAY to sore for that!
I filled condoms with water and froze them. Then applied them 'down there'. They worked a treat!!!!
