When is a cough more than a cough

I am 34 weeks pg and am insulin dependant with GD.

I have been home from work for almost a week with upper respiratory tract infection and now for the last few days what seems to be just a rotten flu. Sore body, runny nose, headaches, you know the usual.

But now... I have this wheezy-like cough that does not stop until I vomit - or most of the time anyway.

My question - when does a cough become really serious?

I am on antibiotics and am putting up with it, but should I be getting a little concerned.

If the cough has changed i would suggest checking with your GP, whooping cough has increased as they didn't realise the vaccine only lasts around 10yrs, so all of us who were immunised as babies should really be looking into getting immunised again, i will as soon as #2 arrives so then i don't risk my poor lil bubbas.

It could be nothing but maybe just call the doc, explain the cough etc and see what they say, it's better to be safe than sorry.

I hope it's nothing and wish you all the best for the rest of your pregnancy!

I agree, you should get checked out. Its probably just part of the virus you've been suffering from. I have had that few times post-virus - the "cough til you vom". For me its always been due to throat irritation from a post-nasal drip.

    Hi Leanne,

Oh I know how you feel!! I have insulin dependant diabetes and got sick for the first time at about 35 weeks. It went away and then came back again a few weeks ago and I've been left with a shocking cough for about 2 weeks now. I just ran it by my ob and he thought mine was nothing to worry about - have had no fevers, but was feeling similar to you - but got me to take some Duro-Tuss to help ease it. It has helped, but I'm still having the occasional cough until I vomit too especially when I try to talk to someone Blergh, gross!

I'd run it by someone too though (especially before taking anything like the medcine I'm taking), I must admit I didn't go to the GP because mine is too difficult to get an appt and also I didn't want to sit in a waiting room surrounded by sick people either. Maybe a phone call might do the trick? I'm so hoping mine will get a bit better when I deliver sometime this week.

Hope yours goes for you soon too, its so no fun
