hi everyone!!
DF is a bricklayer and has been having constant pain in his back and elbow, he's been seeing a physio but its not really doing anything (back pain is muscular not skeletal)
just wondering if either osteopathy or myotherapy might help him and which one would be better?? he has prescribed excersizes from the physio which he does everyday but would like to try something different to see if it works and we have no idea what either therapies are lmao!
any knowledge and advice much appreciated!!
Osteopathy will definately help!!! I am a HUGE advocate. I had an acute episode of back pain last year and literally couldn't get out of bed. I saw my Osteo and 2 days later I was able to do the grocery shopping! I see her regularly between my shoulder and my back. I went for nearly 12 months with no issues and then got slack with my exercises and had another flare up (not as bad) and she has helped immensely. I strongly believe if I didn't have her, I'd not be able to walk at the moment. She also works in conjunction with my Physio (whom I see for clinical pilates) and my personal trainer (they call it Team Mother Goose ). It might take a few session before he notices a huge difference but it will definately help. Once they are on top of the issue, he will just need to go for maintenance which is usually every couple of months. I'm happy to give you her details - she works in Greensborough but also works at another clinic in Essendon (I'd have to get those details from her tomorrow though). Just PM me if you're interested.
Yep, osteo definitely recommended. I see one regularly for general check ups and adjustments. I'm also a pilates instructor and the studio I work for - well lots of our clients come in with major issues and we generally recommend they see the osteo as well as do their pilates with us. Its all complimentary really.
Hi Skybie, sorry to hear about your DF's back and elbow, and also sorry he isn't having any success with physio (I'm a physio). There are different 'schools' of physiotherapy, and some therapists who qualified some time ago may not be up with the latest research either. Also, perhaps he doesn't have a truly mechanical problem that will respond to mechanical intervention. That could be why your DF isn't getting much relief. Our clinic works in the McKenzie system, which requires additional postgraduate training in spinal problems. Recent research supports this system, particularly for lower back pain. Does his physio have McKenzie qualifications? If not, then perhaps he might like to see someone with these qualifications. Osteos, chiros and dr's can also do the training. If you are interested in seeking another physio opinion, I'm happy to pass on details of someone with the postgrad quals if there is someone in your area - just PM me.
