    Lyn Burmiester @ Monash IVF?

Has anyone else seen Lyn Burnmiester (sorry can't spell at this time of night!) at Monash IVF in Melbourne?

Am off to see her soon and just wondering what she's like?

    Hi Bea06

I am only new to bellybelly and this is my first post. I am also fairly new to IVF. This is my first cycle and I am seeing Dr Lynne Burmeister at Monash IVF.

I just had my EPU yesterday at the Epworth where they got 30 eggs, 14 were mature and of those 13 fertilised. I am due for my ET this Saturday.

I have had two consultations with Lynne so far. She suggested a short antagonist cycle which has worked perfectly for us so far. My husband has a blockage so had to have a testicular biopsy yesterday also. Although she didn't perform the surgery which I was expecting, the male surgeon who did the procedures was very nice (didn't get his name). The nurses at Monash Richmond have been really nice also. I see Sharon, but had Robyn on two occaisions for blood tests and she is lovely too!

Any questions, let me know. Good luck with your appt with her!

    Hi amy_99,

I'm also new to Belly Belly & this is my 1st post!!!

I just wanted to find out how you got on with Lynn?

I've been seeing her for about 1 year now & after 3 miscarriages (only 1 was while i was seeing Lynn) I'm going to do my 1st round of IVF next month with her.
NB: I conceived naturally with the 3 miscarriages.

I've also been assigned to Sharon as my nurse so any feedback on your IVF experiance would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi gnalpant

Welcome to BellyBelly. I am sure you will find everyone on here very helpful!!

I was successful with my first cycle, I will be 6 weeks pregnant on Monday! Although I have not actually seen Lynn since my consultation with her back in July!!

She prescribed the medications for the cycle and then I was passed onto Sharon the nurse at Monash. Sharon was lovely. I only saw her once when I went for my first appt with her to get the meds etc. The second time I went there for my scan and blood test I saw Robyn another nurse who was very nice also, and the same for my third visit which was for another scan and blood test. Sharon called me at about 2pm the day of each blood test to give me the result. The surgeon who actually did the egg pick up and the transfer was a male doctor and they kept calling him Professor, so he must have been good at what he does!

When I went for my pregnany blood test at the end of the two week wait, Sharon wasn't working that day so another nurse called with my results! The nurse said Sharon will be very dissapointed because she would have loved to give you this good news, You are pregnant! For some reason, i thought it was successful, due to the symptoms I had been having etc and I think you just know??

I then had another blood test a week after the preg test to see if my HCG levels had rised and they were 3104 or something, so the nurse was happy with that. I am booked for another HCG test next wednesday and then the following Monday I have an appt with Lynn.

I am really looking forward to this appt because she will do a scan at this appt! Can't wait!

I know its still early days, but we have to stay positive. Since I had no fertility issues apart from endo, I am hoping everything will be fine. Our problem was that my husband had had a rugby injury years ago which had caused a blockage so he had to have his sperm aspirated.

If you have been able to conceive naturally, I am sure you will be fine!

    I would highly recommend Lynn.

Sorry for the novel. If you have any questions, just let me know!!

Good luck with your first IVF cycle!!

Amy, congratulations! I hope it all goes well for you. I think being positive is the best way to be in this situation. Your experiance with Monash IVF seems to be positive so its comforting to hear that just before i go through the same process.

I'm excited about doing IVF as conceiving natuarally 3 times hasn't worked for me so I'm hoping by doing it this way might make a difference for me as they still cant find a reason for the miscarriages.

I've seen Lynn a few times over the last year and there have been comments on forums that she is "cold", but i can say that she has shown another side (particulary during my last miscarriage). The best doctors usually dont have the best bed side manner & i'm told by so many other professionals in this field that she is the best in Australia. I really do feel that i am seeing the best & if anyone can make it work its Lynn.

Good luck to you. I hope i get an update on your progress. I'll keep everything crossed for you & send you positive vibes.

I agree Loula plus personally i don't think infertile couples should be relying on the FS to be an emotional support, that support should be amongst yourself & partner plus family/friends.

Lynn is professional, shes not there to be warm & fuzzy & give couples false hope. Plus I'm sure she's become immune to a lot of these types of disappointments, its only human nature given this is what she does day in day out.

I'm sure Lynn has seen some pretty heartbreaking things in her time & she can come across as being direct, but thats because she knows her stuff & in many cases there is a sense of urgency.

I realy feel like i'm in good hands with her.

    kristine08,
I saw Dr Lynn Burmeister yesterday.
I have been a patient at Melb IVF for 12 months now and on recommendations from
my Naturopath I paid Lynn a visit.
She was very proactive. Questioned me as to why my FS hadn't completed further tests as to why we were not falling pregnant.
We have a 3 year old from a natural pregnancy and I am 41 years of age.
My FS believes that if we keep trying long enough it will happen. How long can you try before
it becomes too long? Lynn has scheduled a Laparoscopy, Hysteroscopy and D+C for 2 weeks time
and wants to get started after my next period which will be late August/Sept.
She is great and I am looking forward to her positive proactive approach.
I had been asking questions of my Melb IVF FS for quite some time now with no luck
so I am looking forward to our new venture.
    Good luck with your appointment.
I'm sure you will like Lynn.
Secretary Claire was also very helpful and friendly.

    all the best

I have been seeing Dr Burmeister for about a year now. Currently on 6th cycle without success. Apparrently, according to Lynn, I am "a difficult patient", in the sense that I'm not responding well to any of the protocols so far.

Anyway, in terms of Lynn herself, I had a little laugh when I saw that she has been referred to as "cold". She is certainly very professional, clinical, and not warm and fuzzy. However, I look past that as I have had warm and fuzzy FS before who never did anything and sat by while we struggled for 5 years TTC and didn't even refer us to IVF. I think Lynn knows what she's doing, and in the end, that's the best you can hope for.

For support, that's what the counsellors are for, and also your buddies here on this forum.

Hi, I'm new to this and just wanted to know how you have been getting on with Lynn since July 2010?

We have been to Lynn once for a consultation, and are doing ICSI as my partner has high sperm antibodies and I am 40. The results were apparently very good for my age, with 8 fertilised embryos, with 3 going through to blastocyst stage and all high quality. Having said that 2 have not taken and the 3rd is waiting in storage.

We have heard Lynn is the best as well, but have been disappointed in the process with Monash, where once having seen Lynn, you dont hear from her again. Its the nurse you have contact with, and then at egg retreival and transfer you get whoever is rostered on. Its very disappointing as I feel they don't know your body or history like your own F/S doctor.

Does anyone else feel like this? Also, Monash is nearly $600 dearer per cycle and there is no personalised service.

Has anyone gone from Monash to Melbourne IVF, for the cheaper fees (which add up to a quite a few thousand over a few cycles) and for the personalised 7 day a week service? We noticed that Monash dont operate 7 days a week for egg retreival and transfer, which left us wondering when we had a procedure on Monday, if it should have indeed been over the weekend?

Look forward to your thoughts on all of the above! Thanks.
