Liver function not 100%, but worrying

I had an operation a couple of months ago, & the doctors discovered that my liver wasnt functioning as well as it should be. They told me not to worry, as it could be due to something as simple as a cold, but to visit my doc for a blood test check up 6 wks after the surgery. So I did that a couple of wks ago & have since received a letter from my doctor wanting to discuss the results. That for a start made me panic, as I have never had a letter to discuss blood test results before. However DH said if it was anything serious they would have called, so that eased my mind a bit. Last night I had two glasses of champagne. This morning I woke up & my eyes were noticeably a tad yellow. I am very worried now that something is really up with my liver. Has anyone had anything similar???

My LFT's are ALWAYS abnormal. Always. But the jaundice of the eyes after alcohol is interesting... what happened in the end?

Mine are abnormal due to PCOS. And an incident that occurred in my teens. My liver will only get better if I can get rid of the PCOS... And even then will never be 100%. But I've been told not to worry and haven't been told to stop drinking or anything like that.

I have an appt today in a couple of hours. Thanks girls for the reassurance. I am also generally feeling so tired, even when I get a full nights sleep I wake and can barely function. I am also feeling a bit depressed about things lately. I think my whole body needs a total overhaul so I will see what the doc says.

MM - the LFTs are what got my gallstones diagnosed...and have returned to normal since they got sorted out. It's helpful to remember that of all the organs in your body the liver is the most able to regenerate itself. I did a lot of reading and there are things you can do to help it, like reducing the GI of your diet, eating fewer but healthier fats, exercising, drinking lots of water, etc. The sorts of things that generally help you to feel healthier.

Let us know how you get on at the drs. xxx

Thanks MD, I have done alot of reading on the subject too. I have been pretty worried about my health lately. Seems I dont have anything to worry about really though, as my blood test result shows that my liver has improved its function a huge amount since it was detected. Still not 100%, so I am going to go on a diet to bring myself back to normal. Not only that I have been feeling sluggish iykwim, so I think I need to do something about it. Doctor seems to think that my liver function suffered due to my ectopic pregnancy. I was wondering how it could happen, as I am a fairly healthy person, home cooked vege riddled meals, drink water, only have alcohol when I go out for dinner etc. I have also been given the all ok to go ahead and ttc now, so we are happy about that. Time for some changes with my health from now on in though.

Something that may be worth it as well is acupuncture/chinese herbs for liver function... I started on these a few years ago as my liver was struggling due to repeated IVF stim cycle & the drugs.

The herbs are excellent at making you feel a lot better too as I was always sluggish & lethargic as well.

Apparently everything is good now so I can vouch for it

    Good luck hun xxx

Got some multivitamins today & a liver detox vitamin so hopefully this will make me feel better.
