Switching to Private Health Insurance at 6 months pregnant

Mods - please delete - duplicate post! TIA

    Hi all

DH's private health care provider are currently waiving the waiting period (including for pregancy!).

What would be the benefits of switching to private at 6 months on in the pregnancy? Would it only be the private room at the hospital? I'm currently booked in to MMC, but was hoping to swap to Jessie Mac. (My ob delivers at both!)

    Any suggestions? Advice?

    Thanks!

I personally haven't had babies - but I've got friends who have had babies both ways. With the ones who went public, they didn't have a choice of ob - it was GP care up till close to the birth and then regular out patient visits at the hospital - these can often be very long compared to seeing a private OB. Like I said, it was pot luck who was on call when you went in to have bub. They also seemed to leave hospital alot earlier because of the noise in having to share rooms, that plus need for the beds, I don't think you get much choice with staying longer than a day or two.
For the ones who went private, they had their visits with their OB in his offices, had either that OB or one other they had met prior to the birth depending if he was on call or not. They also tended to spend 4 or 5 days in hospital as they had private rooms and supportive nursing staff.
    Hope that helps a bit.
