thread: small fontanelle?

    small fontanelle?

    when my MACH nurse came to visit at 1 week she mentioned that DS has a small fontanelle and that I should get the paed to check...
    She said it is rare but can cause a lot of pressure in the head etc...
    Anyone heard of this??? I had the 6 wk check yest and forgot about it, do i need to make another appt?

    preagainpan did your Dr look at the fontanelle at your check up? The concern with the fontanelle being too small is it close's too quickly. You don't want the anterior fontanelle to close any earlier then 12months at the earliest if not 18month as it does create pressure whilst your babies brain is big and the skull is still small. Its something that definately would need to be looked at if your Dr didn't look at it at your check up. In saying that its not something that you would need to rush of and have looked at right away. A few weeks would be fine.
