i've down sized my bag now and am just using a handbag -
ive got a nappy, wipes, disposible change mat, bib, and pawpaw cream.
before i go out i'll chuck in some cruskits or a snack for ds and water.
Well nowadays i only take a larger handbag for short trips (say max 3hrs) and take for bubs the following:
2 nappies
travelcase wipes
2 or 3 bibs (reflux baby so CONSTANT,constant vomiting)
nappy sacks (whole pack)
small toy
spare dummy
bottle water or milk depending on feed times
If i go out all day or out for the evening to friends place then i take the big nappy bag including all the above and the following;
2 sets of spare clothes
another 2 nappies
Bottle of water
Milk Bottles
Homemade Dinner (or lunch)
numerous bibs
burping clothes (actually are cloth nappies)
a few blankets, wraps if going for a nap at someones place
we live a fair way from all the normal shops and our family - usually when i go out i go for at least 6 or 8 hours so a decent day. have a BF bubba who is still pooping fairly regularly and fairly messy, as well as being refluxy, sooooo i take
a nappy per hour i'm planning to be out - a lot of these will stay in the car, but i'd rather be safe than sorry (esp given i locked myself out of the house the other day so my reasonably short day became very long while i waited for DH to come home!)
cloth wipes
nappy wet bag (2 - usually one for nappies, one for dirty clothes)
change mat
at least a few changes of clothes - and a gro suit in case we're out long enough for her to need to get ready for bed before we come home
bibs (at least a few), singlets (cos not many bibs have waterproof fabric - just the absorbant stuff so it still gets through when she chucks in the car), spare socks/baby legs
puke rags (at least two, plus two in the car)
rugs (one that wraps and ties up, one that just goes over her, extras in the car in case of puke)
rattle or two
spare dummy or two
water bottle for me
ahhhh, i probably take too much crap - but last week locking myself and not being able to get in til 10, i spent the day at my mum's and came home with next to nothing unused, so i'm glad i over pack!
ETA - i dont' take the nappy bag into shops though - i grab a CT wet bag, take one spare nappy, wipes, my water bottle and spare bib/dummy. throw her kite wrap blanket into the bottom of the pram, and the change mat.
DS is almost 2.5yrs old & I still take too much stuff, but I am always prepared. Just last week I leant his spare clothes to a Mum I had met for coffee at Macca's after her dear little boy flooded the toilet out & drenched himself LOL.....very funny at the time.
Currently mine always has,
Nappies, wipes, smelly bags & change mat
Wrap (for cuddling) & dummy
Change of clothes, some sort of snack food, water bottle, toy, sunscreen & a hat.
- nappies (at least 2 or 3 cloth ones, then a few 'sposies in case of emergencies or if I stay a lot longer out than I planned)
- disposable wipes
- couple of cloth wipes and a muslin facewasher
- small pot of sudocrem, small container of curash powder
- nappy bags
- wetbag for dirty cloth nappies
- 1 change of clothes if going out for a couple of hours. 2 changes if going out all day. Sometimes I've been known to take 3 changes if DD is especially spewy that day.
- wetbag for dirty clothes
- as many bibs as I can lay hands on at the time. At least 6, often more. We can go through a lot of bibs in a short time (spewy baby)
- couple of toys
- couple of bunny rugs
- change mat
- assorted jumpers, hats, socks, etc, if it's going to get cold.
- spare dummy
- tissues for me
I am sincerely hoping that the number of clothes and bibs I have to carry around will decrease eventually.
I don't carry a nappy bag anymore these days, now that Matilda is 2 and half and toilet training, I just chuck a change of clothes, a spare pullup JIC and some wipes in my handbag. Along with a drink bottle and a snack and my purse, phone etc. It's quite a large handbag though, I can get a lot of stuff into it! If we are going out somewhere for a long time though (like to a party or bbq or something) I will grab a cloth shopping bag and put extra stuff in that.
