    Dog Shampoo???

We have a lovely little Border Collie on the way, he turns 5 weeks old tomorrow, so another 3 weeks to go until he comes to us. His name is Banjo & we are currently shuffling down the long list of accessories that we need for him. I am up to Shampoo........ What does everybody else use on their dogs - brand names etc... & do you have to use conditioner as well or is it built into the shampoo?

    Thanks in advance!

Hi Jayne! How exciting!! I have a Border Collie, and he's a beautiful boy. I also just lost an older Border Collie to cancer. Both of our guys have / had long coats, so couldn't get by without conditioner. I personally love Squirt, because it smells soooooo nice. They have a full range of EVERYTHING (which can be a little over the top) but I just use the Shampoo & Conditioner.

Also, and I'm sure you've thought about this, but make sure you get him into obedience training as soon as possible. I've seen a lot of Border Collies go bad when they don't have training becuase they get so bored. And the thing is, they love it so much!!

    How cute!

Personally, I would look into the Paw range, most vets & pet shops have it, its a natural one and has ones designed for puppy's skin. Most pups have sensitive skin until they are like 16 weeks old.

Also the Natural Shampoo from Alloveen is great, they have a leave on conditioner which is yummy as well.

I love Fido's - LOVE the smell, it lasts for ages, gets them so clean and makes them sooo shiny! Also seems to be what all the Hydro Baths & Pet Resorts use as well - Oh and it's also a flea treatment, not that we've ever had flea problems but maybe that's why?? I have a Rottweiler & Bull Mastiff in case that makes a difference - I adore Border Collies though, grew up with them, such lovely natured, intelligent and loyal dogs! Congrats and Good Luck!!

Jakodai - I'm already onto the Obedience Training It's one of the first things I looked into. Border Collies have been my favourite dogs since I was a child & after a miserable experience with our first dog, I have always promised myself that if I ever get another dog (which this has been a very big decision for us to make), I will go for the Border Collie. We are all so excited & it's like preparing for a new baby to come! He is coming over from Mel (we are in Perth), so it's doubly exciting because we get to pick him up from the airport!!!

Ok, I'm going to write those doggy shampoo's down & have a look at my pet stores & vets for them. Our boy is the long haired variety so I want silky fur!!

Oh & Christy, you might be able to tell me this, but I have seen a few people advertise 'short hair' border collies, but I have had a few breeders tell me there is no such thing? A BC must have long hair? It's in their breed standard or something??

I agree with Christy - we use the Paw Chamomile and Coconut puppy shampoo and not only does it smell wonderful but it leaves our girl so soft! They also have a conditioner but with her short hair we find we don't need it.

Good luck with Banjo when he arrives - very exciting!

LOL trust you girls to give me so much help!

I have googled Paws to find an online seller & I came across this brilliant website & their top 3 products are Fido's, Squirt & Paw's! Talk about a hard decision!

So now I have to make a decision, I am loving the idea of my bundle of fluff smelling like coconuts so I'll try the Paw's first!!

    Thanks so much!
