Our three furbabies are inside only, and I wont allow them outside unless they are on a leash - for their own safety. I can't imagine having anything happen to them.
We've got a smaller run that they just adore, but fight for the sunny spots. We're looking to extend their run along the whole length of the house - kind of like an add on.
Does anyone have any experience in building cat runs?
I'd love to see some photos if people have them, for ideas
An old friend of mine has an amazing outside run. It has two 'entrances' to the house, and does a circuit around the backyard through the trees going up and down to form different levels. It opened up to a bigger cat area in a couple of places, while some sections were just big enough for the cats to get through.
it was good because it didn't take up heaps of space and kinda camouflaged into the garden, but the native animals were safe from the cats and the cats were safe from outside things.
My DP built a cat run for his cousin's prize Burmese. He just refuses to build one for me...cos I want one of his cousin's kittens that will be born in October (actually, same time as I'm due!!), and he reckons he hates cats (famous last words...) and won't facilitate me getting one...arse!
Anyway, the best cat run I've even seen belongs to my vet - runs all along 3 sides of his long house and has a few entries to the house. It's filled with long euc branches for climbing and scratching; it's fabulous, really. He has some kind of tiger cat thingy that's worth about $1000...that one time was perched on the curtain pelmet threatening to jump into the blades of the operating ceiling fan...when they weren't home and it was us young un's having an impromptu pool party at his place!! Geez, did I wish the cat was in its bloody run then...
I'd like a run for a cat if I get one because of where we live and also cos it will be a Burmese...don't really want it wandering IF I get one.
