    confused about weaning

dd had no feeds all day 2 days in a row ,and has just had a few sucks now when she bumped her head to calm her down . but other than that doenst want boobie .

but she will have night time and a few time a night feeds .

can she just go cold turkey in the day time ? or do i have to do it slowly ?

she is super whingy in the day and wants cuddles but then i offer her boob and she doesnt want it .

im ready to wean but not fully .. or do i just go the whole hog . ?

we co sleep as she wakes 3-4 times a night and wont settle unless she gets boob. id love to cut that out , but most of her feeds are at this time , how many does a 1 yrold need ?

on to a differnet story , the day of her bday (wed just gone ) it was nap time and she was geeting whingy , but we were all geting ready to go out , i planned to get ready then feed her so she could sleep in the car,but my mum gave her a bottle and she fell asleep ,my mum was all proud as shes alwyas pushing to bottle feed , but she had no idea how her 1st morning feed was going to be special for as it would mark the 1 yr BF for us , instead i had to wait alll day till bedtime for her to have a a fussy feed as she was soo tired ... co incidence or not , her bday was the day shestopped having day feeds .

im ready to give up the day feeds but not sure how weaning actually begins and which feed to actually offer , i dont mind a lunch time and bed time feed . i would also love to cut out the 3-4 night feeds as well .

i guess this post is muddled , im just thinking and typing .. and have a baby crawinlg all over me ..

    Does she have an earache??
I think that you can just offer as often as you like, but be prepared for a "no".

As far as the night feeds are concerned, I found that by feeding mostly to sleep and then rolling over and letting DS cuddle my back as he does the last bit of going to sleep he became much less dependent on boob to settle, and now spends most nights in his cot with only one wake-up.

And congrats on your anniversary - to both you and Miss Caterpilla!

I'd just do whatever is working. If she's happy with no day feeds, then I guess just leave it.
DS has just started dropping feeds & cutting right back. I just give it when he wants it.
Usually just his day sleep & once over night, then if upset or bored wanting a quick drink through the day.
I don't think she needs a certain amount. Whatever she is happy with. DS has never settled through the night with out it, but would your DH try to settle her for a feed & see if she'd drop one over night?

Lea, it can be quite confusing and emotional too. Well done on 1 year of bfing - woo hoo!!

There is no "right" way to cut down the feeds. Most mums find that dropping one at a time works best, but if G has decided to drop all the day feeds at once then you might have to go with the flow. There is no problem with only feeding at night if you are ok with doing this - it's not uncommon as 1yos are often too busy to feed during the day. It's really just a matter of doing what works for you and G.

If she has dropped a couple of feeds in a row, keep an eye out for lumps, but now that she's 1 you should be ok.

Lea Ashton has also cut his day feeds, he has a morning feed and a night feed and sleeps all night.

    I'm really sad

hi all , thanks for the replies .

i find if shes really busy , she cuts out the feeds her self . but loves bedtime booby so i'll keep it like that . i just get annoyed and tired when she makes up for lost feeds at night ... im feeling a little fuller than usual , but no pain or lumps yet , but i am being careful as up until she was about 5 mths old , inc bf my ds , i have had mastits 13 times ...

shes a light sleeper , and wakes alot but thats a whole other thread
