Red face Advice needed please - jogging/running bras

I really like walking but I feel like I need to do some exercise that's a bit more high impact and gets my heart pumping a bit more. And used to really like running but I haven't done it for years and years. I really want to go running but THE major factor putting me off is bouncing boobies. They are just so uncomfortable and even painful. What can I do, what type of bra is best? I desperately need some good bra advice but any other advice about starting running would also be very much appreciated

    TIA

Sorry... can't help as I am not a runner, just wanted to say Good on you for running! I wish I could do it, but I have no discipline

Good luck with getting some answers on the bra issue

Aww, thank you, that is so sweet. I feel all warm and special now.

Actually it's my DH that's inspired me. His Dr told him that he needed to lose 20kg so he just started running. Then a really fit and healthy friend of his sort of took him under his wing and they run together for 45 minutes three times a week. My DH has lost 10kg! And I'm feeling really left out. Man, this exercise and healthy living thing is catching.

Get yourself to a bra shop and get a fitting. Sports bras come with ratings - some are suitable for light excercise and others are designed for high impact excercise like running. If you tell your fitter what you're using it for she will make sure it has enough support.

    Hi there,

I've heard that sports bras are good for that. I think its great that you are taking up running, its a great form of exercise and you will get great results. I'm considering buying a sports bra as i would like to take up running and i dont want any black eyes

hey good on you for having the motivation to run, during winter i have none whatsoever.

I find the sport bra's in kmart/target are good- but really it is an individual thing. I think they also have them rated at different impact levels- like running to jogging to walking to high impact sports.Try a few on in the change rooms and jog on the spot and jump up and down just to get some kind of idea. Sorry not really that helpful, but hope it help a bit. Good luck.

:yeahthat: Depends how big your boobs are too. I was a DD before having bub and when I was running almost everyday I found that Berlei bras were the best for me. About $40-50 per bra but hugely supportive. I found that Target/Big W/Kmart didn't even have my size 14DD or they were useless

Depends on your size - I run a couple of times a week and I am a stickler for no bounce! There is nothing worse than seeing a woman bouncing all over the place when running - all I can think about is the damage she is doing to her breast tissue! (although I'm sure blokes don't think the same )

Anyway - go to Myer or the like and get properly fitted. Berlei & some other manufacturers make bras rated for different exercise so you will need to get the one rated for high intensity workouts. I also wear an exercise crop top over my bra for added support.

    Enjoy your running!

Thanks so much ladies. I'm about a D at the moment but I expect I'll go back to a C when I finish BFing (although I have no time limit or expectations about weaning, so who knows when that will be ). I have to have absolutely no bounce, like I want them pressed as firmly against my chest as possible, while still being able to breathe of course.

the things you learn when you ask Yeah, I was thinking of a really tight crop top as well as a bra too.

And thanks so much everyone for your lovely support *mwah*

    Hi
i would recommend Bras n things over myer for fittings as they are heaps better and more trained to fit. they have a couple really great sports bras and can make sure you are in the right one.

Buy the size that will fit now and then when you give up BF get fitted again.

    JIC you're all wondering...

Well I got me a bra. I went to bras and things and a young lady (with attitude, why do all young ladies have attitude these days) fitted me. I thought a 14D was perfect but she said it wasn't tight enough so she squashed me in to a 12DD. I got Berlei one - it was $60 bucks . Then I had to go and buy some running shoes (my current pair were falling apart but they'd done well, I'd bought them from vinnies for $6 about 8 years ago). And then I nearly died again, the cheapest ones were $170 . I thought running shoes were about $60 bucks (geez I think I've been living under a rock).

Anyway, then I went for my jog. I only did 2.5km in 25 minus and I had to alternate between running and walking but I really felt it (and I'm still feeling it). Running is such a different (and better) work out compared to walking. EVERYTHING wobbled way more than was comfortable. My boobs wobbled, my thighs and bum wobbled, everything wobbled, I need a sports bra for my whole body . DH said that he wobbled all over too when he first started and was very uncomfortable but he encouraged me to keep going. He said that all the wobbly bit supporting muscles will build up, and then everything won't wobble as much, and then the wobbly bits will get smaller too, like they have for him. Thanks DH, love you darling

So my goal is to be able to run 2.5 km comfortably. So I have to run for 30 mins every second (or third if it's raining) day. Then my next goal will be to run 5km. WooHoo! Go me!
