    extremely shifty advertising

I haven been looking at cots on e-bay. There is a specific brand that i am after. I found one that was not advertised in the title) with the *Brand name, but the pic looks like it and in the descriptor they use the *Brand name and say this"

What you see in the picture is what you get.

Here is some features the cot from the website

The *Brand Baby Cot promotes sound sleep through ...

The *Brand Cot is Recommended and Endorsed by ....

IMPORTANT: The only safe and practical way to use our patented *Brand cot is to hang it from our patented *Brand frame.
Baby cots that hang from ceilings, beams and doorways are, in our opinion, extremely unsafe.

The Original & Safest Baby Cot in the Market
I have changed it a little, but all the claims here are from the Ad. They also have a link to the *Brand website.

I wrote and asked them if the item was an original *Brand.
I got an e-mail back that said
Thanks for your question this is not the original *Brand cot but exactly similar to it.
I think this is false advertising. I am really glad that i asked the question before bidding on the item. Would you report it?

That is definitely false advertising. I would report it, as the item description does not match the item that is for sale - they are claiming it is a certain brand, when it is not.

I would send an email to the company that actually produces the product and draw the add to their attention - they are the ones that are suffering.

Also, as an aside - how can something be "exactly similar" - surely it is exactly the same or it is similar...

Absolutely report it. It's a sneaky way some sellers get more 'hits' on their product, by using a popular, high searched brand name.

I love their response exactly similar

I would report it to Ebay AND email the original brand company and let them know that *Brand has been stating theirs is "exactly similar"

I got a reply from e-bay. They agreed that "Posting false or misleading information is a violation of eBay policy......however, E-bay "is simply not in a position to authenticate items......" and bidders are encouraged to ask sellers about the item and ask for documents or other materials to authenticate the item.

So, basically i had to purchase the item, and then make a complaint for them to investigate the claim. What a joke.

If it's a violation of their policy, then they should shut down the listing and be sending the seller a strongly worded warning. Why even bother having rules and policies if they can't police them? What a joke!
