my DD2 was wrapped and put to bed awak pretty much since birth, she's now 8 weeks, and for the past 2 weeks she will not go off to sleep on her own, and will eventually cry.
i knew it was too good to be true! DD never self settled (and still wont go off to sleep unless someone is laying with her)
any tips? she has a dummy, which will put her to sleep in a matter of seconds IF im holding her. i pat her on the bum gently, and i try that when putting her down, but she tenses up, and will cry, spit out the dummy and thats it- she wont settle till i pick her up, dummy in, and pat on the bum.
I have been finding that with DS. In the end I just cuddle him until he is asleep (or on the verge of sleep) as the cries just get louder if I don't pick him up. I figure he wants to know mummy is there, so he gets the cuddles. It is also a lot quicker than the other methods for getting him to sleep if he is worked up.
I figure as they get older they can learn the skills of settling themselves without the cuddles, but I like to do what works to keep him calm, as it tends to result in better sleeps.
could also be a developmental thing like growth spurt, my DD did that around 8 weeks and then around 14-16 weeks and also tends to feed a bit more, then back to self settling the next week..i put it down to 'growing pains' for lack of a batter phrase, hope you KWIM??
