Tummy bug lingering for almost a week- normal?

Last Friday night DS got really sick and was up 8 times vomiting, poor thing. He was still a bit vomity on Saturday, but nothing dramatic. Since then, he has been off his food and drink and his poos have been terrible and he farts all the time! Yesterday morning he woke up and had obviously vomited a couple of times during the night as it was all over his cot and him.

He is otherwise acting fine, no fever, no lethary, just a bit clingy and whingy.

We took him to the dr on Wednesday morning after freaking out when we found him covered in sick, and the dr said these bugs can take a while for little ones to get over (DH and I have both had it and recovered from it in the meantime). But it just doesn't seem like he's getting better and its so unusual for him- every other illness he bounced back like a champion. I can't help but fret a little as its all new territory.

So I'm just after some experiences from other mums- have your kids taken this long to get over a tummy bug? Is it ok that he's still not really interested in much food?

We are trying to get him to drink as much as possible, but its uphill all the way...

I think at his age they say go to doc if it persists more than 24 hours. I'd possibly take him back again just to check him over. It can really hit them hard though. I just had a tummy bug last week... not a vomiting one thank goodness - had that one 2 months ago - anyway, took me about 4 days to stop sitting on the toilet and close to a week all up to feel pretty good again and it wasn't a bad bug really, more annoying. I hope he feels better really soon the poor little guy.
