We are going on our first holiday ever - where do we go (Vic)?

    Hey guys,

So we have never gone on a holiday, we didn't even go on a honeymoon, and we will have been married 5 years this December. We were living overseas and came home broke 6 months before the wedding, and then DH got a good job, and inbetween that, uni at nights, 2 kids, never having enough leave (Dh uses it all for our religious holidays) and never having spare $$ etc, we have never managed a holiday.

But we were going to make sure we had one this year, no matter what, although it kept getting pushed back and back. And we now have a nanny, so we have decided to go away as a couple for 2 nights at the end of Oct. My MIL will have the kids and night and the nanny is around to help her during the day (we will have a family holiday still, we wanted to do a farmstay, but if we go on a holiday by ourselves it isn't so urgent)

The qn is - where do we go? We have no kiddies to worry about entertaining, so that is good, but now the opportunities seem to many to make a choice. I was thinking Phillip Island, as we both wanted to still get out and do stuff in the local area, along with taking it easy and having a sleep in

So, does anyone have any good suggestions of areas to go that aren't too far a drive from Melb, that have good things to do as a couple (not dining out though, as we will be bringing all our own kosher food). Anyone know any good accomodation places?

I'm so excited i feel like a little kid!

... I was going suggest the same as Tinks

Also why not drive via Ballarat (pop by & see me if i'm about ), maybe stay Ballarat for the night & do a night ghost tour or a night show at Sovereign Hill ... then head to Geelong do a spot of shopping there ... then stay at Barwin Heads maybe go for a swim if warm enough then relax at night with a drink at a bar ... then head for Queenscliff on a Sunday for a market shop ... & then put your car on the ferry & head for Sorrento for some sights and around the beach area there to come home again

Another Great Ocean Road vote here Yael. If you've never done it, it's worth the trip. Dh took me for a honeymoon road trip, I'd never been before, and we loved it.
The great thing about going without the kids is that you can just stay wherever takes your fancy. Drive by something and think 'ohh let's stop and look at that'. And do it!

Plenty of spots on the Great Ocean road to park your car and eat your food while enjoying the beautiful views. And lots of touristy seaside towns. And a wicked Lighthouse, and high bridge thingy over trees somewhere in the Otway ranges.

Otherwise, Phillip Island could be fun too. Or somewhere in the Dandenong Ranges/Yarra valley.

Yeah, I vote Great Ocean Road, or Daylesford too. Do you like beach or trees more?

Phillip Island is great fun, but I would save that one up to take the kids
