I haven't had one but I've assisted in a few hundred, and DH has had one.
His was a daystay procedure felt great afterwards.
THey can either band them if they are big enough or sometimes they inject them to make the veins go down.....hmmm what else can I tell you?

yeah a reply - thankyou so much
Does it hurt? how long does it take for the banding way to fix them? are u aware if there is anyother way of getting rid of them without seeing a doctor?
I only have 1 thankgod - doesent cause me any problems but i dont like it!
    All Miss B's fault!
Do they knock u out for the proceedure? and are u aware of cost?

    Hi hj
i had one after DS it was small but did cause pain so i went to the see the surgeon at the hossy he said they could give me a GA and do it but he thought they could band it, he did then and there in the consulting room, it hurt like hell when he was doing it and for a few hours afterwards and i was a bit sore the next day but two days later no pain.
you can get some cream from the chemist i think but it helps with the pain doesn't make them go away i don't think.
the joys of having babies hey! Hope this helps, its not an easy thing to ask a friend IRL well it wasn't for me!

Kimmy - yep i have tried every cream possible - and neither have worked!
im not liking the sound of the banding - but im not a fan of going under either!
does it really have to hurt like hell?????
has it totally gone now? does it drop off?
yep the joys of babies - but they are worth it! sounds silly but apart from me knowing its there the only reason why i want it gone is so DH or anyone dosent see it when giving birth to my next one - when i saw it when giving birth to B i was so embarrassed and self conscious of it!

yeah babies are so worth it
I'm not sure if it has to hurt like hell or not maybe i have low pain threshold or perhaps because of the embarassment of it all it hurt more to me ...i don't know. I didn't want to go under cos DS was quite young at the time and i was BF so thats why i opted for the banding. (although the sound of it was a real turn off)
It is gone now and according to my DR it is supposed to drop off a few day later when you use your bowels and you don't even notice it.
the pain is certainly no where near as bad as contractions maybe my first description was a bit dramatic lol! It certainly hurts and is uncomfortable but as i said i was really embarassed about it all so maybe thats why i remember thinking how much i hurts.

My dad had several done (I really don't know how many) and it was quite painful for him, but the benefits after it healed were worth it so he reccons This was also about 25 years ago too so not sure if the techniques used are the same.

well done HJ. I think DH was in a fair amount of pain for him to actually show me (he needed morphine for it so they were really bad), but only just uncomfortable after the procedure. He was knocked out though.
I don't think there is much other than the creams. Make sure you're getting plenty of fibre and water so that you aren't straining at all.
DH's was done under our PHI so I'm not sure of the real cost.
