I bought a few different commercial cloth nappies just over 2 years ago and I thought you ladies would like to know how they fared.
Some background info - most of my nappy stash are plain white flannelette cotton squares and I use home-made procare nappy covers. So while my commercial nappies are not in high rotation, but they are washed at least once a week. I always dry pail, wash in cold water and line dry. OCCASIONALLY they have been hot washed (like, once every 6 months maybe).
Greenkids : I have two fitted Greenkids nappies (the sort you don't need a cover for but stuff with an absorbent liner). They have fared really well - the covers are still leak proof, the velco isn't worn out and the lining is still in good nick. One is now starting to loose its waterproofing a little, though.
Baby Beehinds : Never my fave nappy, this has been the best wearing. I have a regular and used to have a hemp but lost it. The BBH microfibre(?)cover was thrown out ages ago as it lost its waterproofing, but the BBH wool cover is in great nick (some of the stiching needs re-doing but its otherwise ok). The elastic is still in great shape and they are my favourites now.
Bumgenius : I have the one-size. It has started to leak and the elastic was replaced about 6 months ago. Of all, this has fared the worst. But it is the best looking
Bummis : These are the best nappy covers (mind you I haven't bought any other brands). They retain their waterproofing well and the velcro lasts ages.
As said above my other covers are home-made procare ones. Procare rocks if you can get it, but bear in mind I don't think it is a "breathable" fabric like some of the others.
