    Viral infection

Hi everyone so just after some quick advice... DD is 11mths old and the Dr has advised she has a viral infection.

Last week she started teething again, red cheeks, sooky and the she started getting a chest infection (she gets this when her teeth cut) but there was no sign of a tooth.
She started to become VERY sooky and not at all herself (besides the teething) then she had a temp of 38 at 4am one morning, the next day had a slight rash on her stomach and thats when i took her to the Dr's.
That day she also started getting diarrhea (sp?) but only AFTER i had been to the DR.

ok so the Dr told me she likely picked up the bug at MG on the wed (appt was fri) while her immune system was low, they generally last 3-4 days and as the rash was coming out it's normally the last stage.

It's now MONDAY my poor angel is still sooky, her poor backside is bright red and in about 3 days i am lucky if 3 nappies have not had poos!
She seems to be eating and drinking ok (2 bottles a day plus about 200ml water) but due to her #2 issue i can't judge her urine output.
I have done as the Dr said, Panadol b4 bed and when she REALLY needs it during the day, fluids as much as she will take and keeping her foods up, is there ANYHTHING ELSE anyone can suggest?

I am using bepanthen or her poor bum but she still screams every time i change her nappy, she has not deteriorated over the last day or so so have an appt for Wed morning as this is the earliest i can see my Dr, if she was to stop eating or drinking would go straight to the hosp but wondering if anyone has any other suggestions?

I am 22wks PG with #2 and am TIRED beyond belief as she WILL NOT go to DP at all while sick so up all night with her then being stalked all day and screamed at at every nappy change... love her to bits but i want my happy smiley girl back!

Sorry so long, any ideas will be helpful!

viral infections are something you will get used too as a mum with a child They suck, they are tiring and exhausting but they come with the territory. Unfortunately, other mums often venture out when their children have signs of a viral infections, and some viral infections are worse than others!! Believe me, I know this as my daughter had viral meningitis this year.... it sucks big time.

Unfortunately there isn't much you can do other than keep them medicated. I would make sure you keep up with panadol/neurophen and give it when its due for the first 24 hours and then slow down on it. Keep fluids up, giving things you wouldn't normally give, hydrolite has ice blocks which can help. Try to keep sane by getting some time off!!! Sleep as much as you can as you may have interrupted sleep. Its a bad cold, and babies often get rashes which show us what is going on. My children have both had the roseola virus which has 5-7 days of high temperatures and then a rash breaks out which tells you what it is.

For her bum, I would recommend doing what you are doing you are doing a great job!!!

Thanks, i don't mind the no sleep or the screaming (would be nice not to have it) but i feel for her, i want it to go away, the 3-4 days is well and truly over so hoping it's nothing worse.

Hope your children don't get any more horrible bugs soon...
