How much do you budget for w/ your water/elec/gas bills?
Im just trying to work out how much I could be looking at for myself+3kids to pay out quarterly in gas/elec/water bills. Its been years since Ive had gas or water bills so I have zero idea what the average costs are.
I have my bills direct debited from my account weekly or fortnightly. I pay $50 a fortnight on electricity which more than covers the bill, the last few were in credit. $50 a week goes towards my phone/internet/mobile bill, which is always pretty massive so I end up having to pay a small balance when the bill comes in. We don't have natural gas where I live and don't pay for water.
Anna if you go on a direct debit system (i'm iwth Tru Energy and it's called an easyway payment plan) with your electricity provider they will take money out of your account fortnightly and you won't ever have to pay the balance of the bill even if it's not in credit. What they do is average your bills out and come up with a fortnightly amount which would cover your energy usage. Doing it this way also means you get the discount for paying on time.
We pay via BPAY every fortnight...Ive rung the companyies and told them to putme on easypay agreements as they gave me the total's.
this is what we pay
Electricity - $91
Gas - $33
Water - $26 (take into account we own so pay alot more then a rental)
Telstra (internet, home phone and 2 mobiles) $100
I put into a savings account fortnightly:
$140 for phone/mobiles, internet and foxtel (would only be $90 without foxtel, and only $75 with one mobile, not two)
$45 for electricity
That way we aren't caught out with huge quarterly electricity bills, or a huge chunk of one week going to telstra. It especially helps on the unlucky months where both telstra and electricity are due within the same two weeks
