Top Up Payment & ATO Info..

DH & I got our tax done about 3 weeks ago and DH talked to our accountant yesterday and he said he thought that our refund would be at his office by the end of the week.
I have juts got off the phone from Centrleink as I wanted to know if we were eligable for the top up payment - and the lady said that they have not recived the information from the ATO yet - should I be concerned or will this happen after we recieve our tax return??

    Cheers
    Kate

It takes a while for us too. Can't remember how long though. You will get a letter though telling you of the date it's expected which is exciting! Lame aren't I

depends on when you do your taxes - generally the expected turn around is approx 2 weeks from when the information for both partners is received. if, however, you do your tax in July, it may take longer as the channels don't open for information to flow until late luly and then all the information has to be sent across and is done slowly so as not to crash the system.

the only other scenario that delays processing is if you have a complex file - self employment starting up (sorry Sammi, this might be you next year!) where your income has dropped signficantly. situations where you've seperated, or become partnered, (esp if both happened) through the year, and there are a few other triggers too but can't recall them! anyway, if one of these happens, it will be put through to a manual processing team who will check it all out to make sure you are paid correctly. the team that do this are very small as they are only required at this time of year so it's normal consultants taken off the phones to do the job when call volume is low. as a result, it can take a longer period of time for these ones to be processed
